Quality in the Auto Industry

Gone Flyin'
Where did it go?

I own and operate an auto glass business. (I install windshields.)

I am constantly amazed at the lack of quality in cars. The Korean cars (Kia, Hyundai) are the worst, followed closely by Ford. I did an install on a Focus today. What a total (cheap) plastic piece of shit. I wouldn't want someone I didn't like to ride in one of these things. Their new trucks aren't any better. Some of the older stuff is okay.

From my experience, Mercedes is the best auto available. Proves the old adage that you get what you pay for. They have trim and fittings that are made of decent materials and actually fit together properly. Something I can say of very few manufacturers.

VW/Audi is another well made vehicle. Honda & Toyota are okay, not great, but okay. (They like overly complicated plastic components that are very fragile.) Some GM and Chrysler aren't bad and some of them are total crap (Trailblazer = crap; Venture-type van chassis = total crap; Impala/Malibu = Pretty good ).

Grrr...

The after market windshieds made for the focus dont fit right any way,( mouldings are way to Tight)by far a Benz or a BMW have better fit and finnish, try to get the insurance company to pay for a better glass and you will be stuck on the phone for hours:hammer:

Glass fitment on that Focus job wasn't the problem, I used a PPG glass. The cowling, fasteners and the rest of the OEM components and the design in general are crap. I wouldn't want someone I didn't like to ride in one of those POS things.

Some glass is worth buying OEM, but 95% of the time you are only wasting your money, insurance companies know this. Early Saturns with the wrap around corners are a good example. Late model Dodge truck back windows are another.

Glass peeps - what's the going rate for a 2001 E430 front windshield with rain sensor?
