problem finding vendors of snowtracs

New member
Hi,
I'm from Europe, and I cannot find any shops for snow tracs around. So I can't get any idea about what could it cost here in Europe to have such a machine. The snow we have. Can anyone help me with links or phone numbers?
Many thanks in advance

They are hard to find but your best bet is to check Ebay and the various classified advertisements on the internet. Do some internet searches. It is often best to repeat the same search every day or every other day. I used to know of a Snow Trac for sale in France, but I cannot find that for sale anymore so I suspect it sold.

You may also want to check a Norwegian site: http://www.snowtrac.no/index.php?option=com_frontpage&Itemid=1
And a Swedish Snow Trac site: http://www.klovsjo.com/snowtrac/
As well as a site in Iceland: http://www.123.is/snowtrac/Default.aspx?lang=en

There is (or recently was) a Snow Trac for sale in Austria by one of our members. You can contact Werner Berger to inquire about his Snow Trac. See this thread: http://www.forumsforums.com/3_9/showthread.php?p=120474#post120474

Below is a photo of Werner's Snow Trac

There are very few places where parts can be obtained, but since most of the mechanical and electrical parts were made by Volkswagen, it is common to find parts at VW collector swap meets, or over the internet from suppliers of classic VW parts.

Also I received this email from Werner Berger, his Snow Trac is still for sale, you may contact him directly if you are interested.
Hello Bob!

Yes, my green Snow Trac is for sale, because i have no more time for driving it. The trac is running ok. I have also one new original variator belt and some tires for sale extra. Do you have my pictures still? Please give my pictures and email to the people who wants to buy a snow trac. If you know someone, thank you for your help.

Below are a couple more photos of his Snow Trac that is for sale.

As for repair work, another great resource to help with repairs is a VW book that is for sale from Amazon.Com The book is called How to Keep your VW Alive and is a classic repair resource for Snow Tracs. You can find it here: http://www.amazon.com/Keep-Volkswagen-Alive-Step-Step/dp/1566913101/ref=cm_cr_pr_pb_t The book is written in very simple terms, and can help ANYONE to keep their Snow Trac running properly. It covers all major mechanical topics and while it does not include things that are Snow Trac specific, it will help with 85% of the problems you may encounter since so much of the Snow Trac is built around VW mechanicals.

so you pratically saying that there are not new snow tracs shops? Forgive my bad english, I'm right now entering this world...

Yes, that is what I am saying.

There are MANY common brands that are no longer in production but still remain very popular with owners and still are commonly found for sale. Snow Trac is one of those brands.

Most of the brand new machines will sell for 10-times the price of a used Snow Trac. It is not uncommon to find new machines in the US$75,000 to US$100,000 price range. Specialty machines can cost much much more. But the old designs, like the Snow Trac, are very reliable and very capable. Finding one is a bigger challenge than getting parts.

technische Daten meines Snow Trac:

Type: snow trac ST4
Chassis numer: 1965
year of manufacture: 1975 (?)
engine: VW
speed, engine power, type, price: ??

What is the price for a Snow trac like this?
Who can help me?

Burger Werner

Hello Bob!
Thank you for your help for selling my snow trac. What do you think is a fair price for my snow trac?

Werner Burger

Its hard for me to sit in the middle of the USA and guess the price of a Snow Trac in Austria. But here in the USA, the prices seem to vary based on location and condition. I would guess, and this is only a guess, that a fair price would be between US$8,000 and US$12,000. But again, that is based on what I see here in North America, and that is assuming your Snow Trac is in very good mechanical condition. I've seem some sell for more that that, and I've seen many sell for less.

For both of your information, the engine n Burger's Snow Trac is an industrial version of the VW engine. It is probably a 1600cc industrial engine. The top speed of a Snow Trac depended on the gears, as there were a few options. Most commonly the speed will be about 20 to 22 mile per hour, which would be about 32 to 38 kilometers per hour. The transmission should be a VW 4-speed manual transmission. The horsepower is should be about 45 to 55 depending on the exact configuration of the engine, air intake, and a few other factors.
I hope this helps both of you.
Regards,
Bob Skurka
