Not sure what the heck was going on yesterday.
Got up and out of the house, and just after leaving my wife calls to inform me that the generator is running because the electricity service had failed. (I think to myself, so what, I'm in an air conditioned store right now
) So I make sure that she has the drapes closed and tell her I'll get home as soon as I can.
15 minutes later I'm still at the same store (shopping for bathroom and light fixtures for the new cigar lounge) the neighbor from down the road calls. His power is out too. He's about a 1/2 mile away so I figure the outage is area wide.
I get home about 11:30, family is gone registering my daughter for high school, buying books, etc and the power is still off. So I make lunch, play on the internet, handle some phone calls from a new tenant, etc. Power comes on at 12:15pm.
Have a meeting at 2pm with a contractor, he is coming from one direction, me from the other so we meet at one of my cigar lounges. Meeting over and the girls working the register tell me they have some merchandise to go to the other lounge, pack it up and drive to the other shop. Walk in and the big TV is black. uh oh.
Apparently I missed the power failure they had at that shop, everything else came back on but the clerk hadn't gotten around to turning the TV back on.
OK, TV works, I head back home.
Wife shows up and we decided to catch a movie at the theatre. Drive to the "showplace 16" to catch INCEPTION and the parking lot is EMTPY. Wow, great parking available
Nope, no power. All the employees are out front informing cars that the place is closed.
OK, whatever. Drive away and figure we'd catch a different theater not too far away, pull in and they have lights! Looks good, pay for our tickets, walk in just as the movies is starting and get great seats. Seems they had a power failure about mid-afternoon at this theater. So we are watching our movie and get about 1/2 way into it when the power goes out, emergency lights click on, and we have another power failure.
Theaters were about a mile apart from each other, apparently on different power grids but both are in the west/central side of the county. My cigar shop that lost power is on the east side of the county, my home is on the south west side of the county.
Seems like the power failures were scattered all over. And there was no heavy storm activity until AFTER the outages!
Gave up, went home and watched TV.
