I see no reason *NOT* to. I don't think it would infringe any more on privacy than your SS card. Also a national photo ID would end many problems with voter fraud (which is rampent, by the way).
 
I'm with Av8r. I see no reason not to have a national ID card. I suppose Libertarians could argue that it is too much government influence and control, and the ACLU would argue that it infringes our privacy. Strange bedfellows...

But, I think we should not only have a national ID card, but we should have to show it every time we want to use a toilet. Therefore, anyone taking a dump in the woods would automatically be either an illegal alien or a terrorist.
