There have been several other monoliths mysteriously appear around the world.

Utah, Romania, the Isle of Wright . . .

Some have been found quickly, others, like this one, appear to have been installed years ago. Some have been stolen, others removed by officials. Some remain a mystery, others were installed by locals or artists who were inspired by a prior monolith discovery. In any case I think it's pretty cool. Doesn't really hurt anything and would make for a great discovery during a hike.

A mysterious monolith has appeared in the Nevada desert over the weekend, sparking speculation as to what it may be and who is behind it.
The structure was spotted by the Las Vegas Police Department, who said they saw it during a search and rescue mission north of the Las Vegas Valley. “We see a lot of weird things … but check this out!” the police posted on social media. The monolith is similar to other similarly puzzling ones that appeared around the globe in 2020. The tall, rectangular, reflective structure was spotted near Gass Peak, a hiking area in the Nevada desert just about an hour north of Las Vegas.
In pictures released by police on social media, the monolith appeared to be nestled in slightly rugged terrain. “HOW did it get up there??” the Las Vegas Police Department asked on social media. The monolith bears some resemblance to those featured in 2001: A Space Odyssey, a 1968 film directed by Stanley Kubrick. Imposing black monoliths created by an unseen alien species appear in the classic movie, which is based on the writing of novelist Arthur C Clarke.
Monoliths similar to the one in Nevada appeared in different locations around the world about four years ago, including one in the Utah desert.
That one left local authorities baffled after it was discovered by a helicopter pilot flying overhead in November 2020.
Another one was found in Romania around the same time, as was one in California and on the Isle of Wight in the English Channel. Speculation brewed then as to who may be behind them, with some wondering if they were part of an art installation. But no one has come forward since to claim they were behind the structures.
Another monolith more recently appeared on a hilltop in Wales in March. Observers said the sculpture looked perfectly level, but it offered no clues as to who could have placed it there.
While the mystery behind the monoliths remains, Las Vegas authorities used their latest discovery to remind people hiking in the Nevada desert to be prepared for the hot weather and to stay safe.

In 2020 another was found in the Utah desert.

Metal monolith found by helicopter crew in Utah desert

The crew found the unusual object while conducting a count of big horn sheep in the area
A strange metal monolith has been discovered in the Utah desert by a helicopter crew, leaving local authorities baffled.
Wildlife officials spotted the "unusual" object while counting sheep during a flyover in a remote south-eastern area of the US state.
They said the structure had been planted in the ground between red rock.
There was no indication who installed the monolith, which was about 10 to 12ft (3.6m) tall.
In an interview with local news channel KSLTV, the helicopter pilot, Bret Hutchings, said: "That's been about the strangest thing that I've come across out there in all my years of flying."

There was speculation that the monolith was installed by an artist
Mr Hutchings said a biologist counting big horn sheep in the helicopter was the first one to spot the structure from the sky.
"He was like, 'Whoa, whoa, whoa, turn around, turn around!'. And I was like, 'What?'. And he's like, 'There's this thing back there - we've got to go look at it!'," Mr Hutchings said.

Local authorities appealed for information about the monolith on social media
Mr Hutchings speculated that the monolith may have been installed by "some new wave artist", or a fan of 2001: A Space Odyssey, the 1968 film directed by Stanley Kubrick.

The Utah Department of Public Safety Aero Bureau released images of the rectangular-shaped metal object in a news release last week.
It said authorities would determine if "they need to investigate further".
"It is illegal to install structures or art without authorisation on federally managed public lands, no matter what planet you're from," the department said.
The department has not disclosed the exact location of the monolith, fearing explorers may try to seek it out and "become stranded".

And in Wales . . .

There are others.

A mysterious monolith has suddenly appeared on a hilltop in Powys.
The gleaming, silver structure was spotted by walkers on Hay Bluff, near the town of Hay-on-Wye on the weekend. Sprouting up out of the mud and measuring about 10ft (3m) tall, its discovery has led many to take to social media to question who put it there and why. Some have pondered whether or not the object could be of extra-terrestrial origin.
Local builder Craig Muir said he was "taken aback" when he spotted what he assumed was "some sort of a UFO" while out hiking.
"It seemed like a very fine metallic almost like a surgical steel," he said, describing the monolith, a large single upright block usually made of stone.

"It looked perfectly levelled and steady, despite the weather being windy."
Since there is no way to drive up to the top of the hill, Mr Muir suggested it could have been taken there by a group of people or dropped into position from a helicopter.
"It didn't seem like it was chucked in there, instead it has been accurately put in the ground," he said.
"However, there were no obvious tracks around it and one would think that something like that would cause a lot of mess."
This is not the first sighting of a mystery monolith.

Similar objects have been discovered across the world in recent years, including this one on the Isle of Wight
Just days after its disappearance, another monolith appeared on the Isle of Wight.
Similar structures have been seen in Cornwall, and a few isolated parts of Europe.
One even popped up on top of Glastonbury Tor, an area steeped in Celtic mythology, inscribed with the words "Not Banksy" on the side.
