Pleasantly surprised

We've been trying to get ahead on our firewood . Our goal has been to be ahead by 3 years . Well , last week I did a tally, and was pleasantly surprised . There is 5 1/2 in the shed , 3/4 on the porch , 4+ stacked and cover(top only) that is fully seasoned .
There is another 6+ that is stacked and in the process of seasoning .
So, at My current consumption of around 3 and a bit cords , We should be Okay for a while . That ,and We're hoping to get a triaxle load of oak logs that was ordered this spring shortly .
It's definitely hard work . But, never having the heater come on all winter makes it so rewarding !
And, none of it would have been possible without Jan . She'll hang in there with the best of them .

You're a lucky man Nix, she's another of the rare angels!

Now I think that new trailer I have should be able to haul about 8 away for you ............. :whistling:

You are absolutely right in Your first sentence.
However, Your second one is bordering into fantasy land ! :yum:

We need some pics of all this wood Jan has worked so hard to pile for you. I hope to finish mine today and put the splitter away.

John & Jan,

What kind of wood is it? I've found that maple doesn't last 3 years and cherry is borderline. Oak, Elm and Ash seem to last forever.

There is some maple and cherry in the mix ,but it's mostly seasoned and in an enclosed wood shed . What is in the stacks is off the ground and covered with metal roofing . The rest is oak, beech , black birch and ash .
Being as it is covered , do You think that We'll still have a problem with the maple and cherry ?

Maple will last a good while if it is off the ground. Laying in the woods it is only good for 2 years then it starts getting punky.

I found that even staying in the woodshed, it gets "too dry" and becomes very light and burns up quickly.

I was kind of concerned about that . But, I've read a few threads on that subject ,and it doesn't seem to be a problem . I've got an Epa type stove that does a secondary burn . I always monitor the fire until it's ready to be damped down for secondary burn . That way over fires are not a problem regardless of wood type or moisture content .
Here's but one thread on the subject :
