Pistol sale - need cash

Erik

SelfBane
I had an expensive spring and need some cash to cover the bills since OT was cancelled, so I'm putting a few pistols up on the block.
If you're a Kansas resident with no legal impediment to you owning a firearm, I can do a face to face sale -- sales to anyone else will have to go through an FFL holder in their state of residence.
Payment by cash or USPS money order
pictures available on request.
what I have and am asking:
"Old Model" Ruger Super Blackhawk (all original) .44 mag with box $550

"Old Model" Ruger Blackhawk (all original) .357 mag $500

Stoeger 8040 Cougar (.40 cal copy of the Beretta Cougar) factory case & 2 mags, less than 500 rounds through it. $400

Beretta 8045 Cougar (.45ACP) factory case & 2 mags - used but not abused $600

Taurus PT1911 w/case & 2 factory mags, less than 500 rounds through it $500

5 Novak 8 rd 1911 mags ($25 ea new from Brownells) mostly carried, in VG shape -- $100 for all 5 shipped
Custom Esmeralda 1911 scales (stock photo, but a good representation): half checkered cocobolo w/celtic knotwork & a Thor's Hammer. currently on the 1911, but available separately for $100 shipped (cost me $135)

Feel free to email or PM with any questions.

Erik,

I don't want to sound dumb or anything but when it comes to guns well I am. Why can you make a face to face sale with a Kansas residence but you can't make a face to face with an out of stater?? How would anyone know the difference? That Taurus sounds nice though!!!!

federal law says it's legal to sell a handgun to a resident of the state you live in without filing any paperwork, but in order to sell across state lines the transaction must go through a gun dealer and a form 4473 must be filed along with a NICS check.
Private sales with long guns are not as regulated - some states allow private sales to individuals living in contiguous states, others have even fewer restrictions. Then there are the states that require the form 4473 be filled out by an FFL holder even in a private sale.
Selling F to F with an out of stater would be difficult for LEO to track, unless the weapon was stolen and then recovered after being used in a crime -- at that point, it is possible for law enforcement to come to me and ask how the pistol I bought in Topeka came to be used in a crime in a different state. Or even worse -- if I sold it to you, then you had a break-in -- how do you report the weapon stolen to claim insurance on it if you did not obtain it legally?

Residence is relatively easy to establish with a drivers license and I can cover my butt with a simple bill of sale that includes make, model, & serial number of the weapon along with the name and address of the person I'm selling to.
This way if the pistol is ever used in a crime, I will have something to show that it was not mine.

The only legal way to sell face to face across state lines that I know of is to meet at the premises of an FFL holder, I hand the pistol to the proprietor, they log it into their books (this is a legal interstate transfer at this point), then you fill out a form 4473, they call the NICS instacheck hotline and get approval to transfer to you, then you pay them a transfer fee (generally $10-35) and they log the pistol back out of their custody to you. (a legal in-state transfer)

And yes, the Taurus is a very nice pistol, I'm just not shooting it since my shooting buddy moved to Wisconsin, and so don't see a big need to hang onto it.

If this still does not make sense, let me know and I can PM you my phone # to try and answer your questions better.

When sending a gun out of state it must be sent to a FFL holder (gun shop) who then does the actual transfer of ownership to the buyer. So if he sells you a gun through the mail, you would actually pick up the gun at your local dealer. The process is pretty simple. Typically the receiving dealer will charge a 'transfer fee' of about $20 to run the paperwork/background check.
