curious...how do ATV's with the snow tracs perform in deep snow? Since I store my snowcat at our cabin. I need something to go back and forth to pick up the cat. Snowmobile is obvious option, however, the thought of an all season ATV has merit.

Well.... depends on the wheeler, and tracks...

they are by far not a snowmobile... but we have tried alot of combos and so far the best has been a yamaha grizzly 700 power steering with the deep power tracks...

I have been pleased with how it performs in most conditions, but it is somewhere between a wheeler with tires and a cat....
do you have many side hills to deal with? or just deep powder?

to add to what I had said, the main thing I have found to help in deep snow is the power steering, and being able to "lock" in all four tracks... the polaris in the picture had "lockers" but they didnt really make all 4 have power all the time.... so that is why the grizzly has done sooooo much better...

although the polaris did get me to many a tower site... as you can see... so... just depends on what snow you deal with...

I can navigate bypass side hills and stick to the road unless there is snow blown over the road. I bought a couple used 90's sleds, but the handle bars are very low. (could raise them I guess) however, my wife wants to seel our dirt bikes and buy some ATVs for summer use. Trying to limit # of toys taking up space at our place:whistling:. I have read mixed reviews, seen some videos. It is nice to talk to someone who actually has experience using an ATV w/ tracks.

Pic of the Day? This appears to have been taken in 2006! Here I thought -- as most that do pic of the day stuff -- you were posting pictures you took on the day you posted it.

hey A$$ ever think some people might like this site and hate seeing it with 0 posts in the cat forum???

guess I will log off and let you get back to being the step on everyone else kinda guy that you are.... let see out of the last page of post you have posted all but maybe 3 have been negitive some how.... hmmm... ok

Cheers Mattfidaho.
I don't care if the picture was even from this lifetime....thanks for posting it, I would rather look at pics like this than something totally unrelated to the outdoors.
Although BigDog does have some very sweet pictures:w00t2:as well as others in the locker room ,not that I visit there often.

Having a bad day? I just thought your pictures were taken each day, but was wrong -- why do you need to resort to name calling?

Sorry, yeah you did catch me on an off day... I just took it as some one looking to start crap after seeing some of your other posts to things I have posted...

I usually don't let forum stuff get to me but today I guess it took it wrong...

txt is a bag way to tell what people really mean when they type. so I took it wrong.

I think your photos have been interesting. I've been looking forward to them each day. It's just today I discovered they weren't what I thought (as far as being shot each day) -- not that's there's anything wrong with that.

well thanks,
If I am out taking anything of interest the day before then I post them, just on slow days or days when I am working in the valley I have posted some out of my collection from winters past.. if you look I posted this thread at about 12:00 am my time... so it would have been a little hard to have good picture in the dark. :)

I will try and put "from the archives" so people know they are more then a day or so old...

We use our Polaris 700 with tracks to go in to get the cat at our place in Wyoming. We use to have snowmobiles, but have found the ATV the way to go. We can use in the summer with the tires and wheels and switch to the tracks in the winter time. As you know the wind blows a lot in Wyoming so you have a variety of snow conditions: Powder, Packed, dirt, etc.
Here are a couple of photos:

Oh and the Moose is back. Throught I would throw that picture in!

Dont worry. I dont think anyone can please Gator Boy! He is in a league all by himself.:yum::whistling::yum:

Matt

I would suggest that you keep doing what you are doing. Actually, if you throw in some really glaring grammatical errors that would be good too. Grammatical errors really piss off Gatorboy and there is a certain joy to be found in annoying the Gatorboy!:shifty:

Keep up the great posts! :thumb:

LMAO, well I am sure there will be more then a few "grammatical" errors on my post... and not intentional either. LOL
I might not have learned so well from that there teacher in grammar school, and such :-D

One good thing about Gatorboy is he is an "equal opportunity bitcher and complainer" direct to everyone and everything on FF..............:yum:

To be truthful I really just like typing the date every morning so I can remember what day it is. :) other wise I just get confused
