Overhaul that Carburator

I was told that the carb on my DMC 1200 with the Ford 300 CID engine is notorious for coming loose. Perhaps this is what lead to some starting and idle problems that I saw last winter. :4_11_9:
So I decided to order a OH kit and see what's happening. When I opened the cowling up to inspect what needed to be undone, I was shocked to find the carb moving around under my hand. It was simple to remove and repair, but was just as described by those who know this engine. The base nuts were just fine, but the throttle plate has three screws that attach it to the main body of the carb. All three screws were loose and the gasket was shot.
After a hour of cleaning and reassembling it with new gaskets, it was like new. I had to retap three previously stripped screws, then use locktite on all of the screws. The choke also needed some attention too.
I reinstalled it after everything was checked out, and it ran like new. I should have done this last fall. :thumb:
I think that I will remove the oil bath air filter and replace it with a K&N type. If you have any ideas on this move, please let me know. :idea:
 
I am a big fan of using the proper locktite on every screw nut and bolt! I have found oil pans, valve covers, throttle linkage, gas tank, deck, doors ect ect nuts and bolts loose on every snowcat that has had lots of use. These are high vibration machines so stuff just works loose. I try and use #1 locktite on just about everything I repair. I used #2H (high heat) locktite on my header bolts and exhaust manifold. I will go and check my carbs today!
