Robert A. Arnzen, the legendary boys basketball coach at Delphos St. John's High school died Wednesday at St. Rita's Medical Center in Lima. He was 83 years old.
Arnzen coached the Blue Jays from 1950 until his retirement in 1993. His 676 career victories rank fourth all-time in Ohio boys coaching history. He led St. John's to five state tournament appearances, and a state championship in 1983.
Arnzen was inducted into the Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame in 1995. That organization now gives an award in Arnzen's honor for coaches with longevity of 20 or more years at one school.
Your News Now Sports spoke to Arnzen last Tuesday for a special feature on the gymnasium that bears his name at St. John's High School. The report will air Thursday on Your News Now at 6 p.m. and 11 p.m.

I knew this man well, as well as his family.
They were a very active part of our church and the school for years.
You don't come across many people like Mr. Arnzen in your life.
He and his family were the good people.
One of his daughters Jeanne was a lifeguard at our swimming pool the same summer as me and we were in the same classes at school.
He'll be missed!
He and Alice often came to where I work to visit people and family members.
