Oral Surgery

Danang Sailor

nullius in verba
I had all my teeth removed today, and the bony ridges underneath ground/shaved down so dentures will fit, which
they wouldn't with those huge ridges in my mouth. Been putting this off for years and couldn't any longer. It is going to
be nice having a set of working teeth again, even if they are 'store boughten'.

In the meantime my mouth is stuffed with gauze and the only solid things I'm allowed to have for several days are the
various meds. Probably won't be posting much this week.

I sure hope the dentist gave you something for the pain. That sound bad but I'm glad that you are going to be able to eat what you want soon.

I've been going to the same dentist for around 35 years now we were both young then. He is semi retired I dread when he fully retires. He did have to send me to a colleague when I knocked a tooth loose during a seizure.

Hopefully you will heal up fast and be biting in to a big fat juicy steak soon.

By the way i hate the dentist.

Did you have a torus ( tori, not sure the right word) removed from the roof of your mouth ? I have one and would rather starve than have it chiseled off.

Hope you feel better soon.

I hope you heal good and fast . you got to have those chompers.
last week i had a root canal done .I had to deal with a bad tooth pain for 24hrs. usually I don't have any pain meds but choose to do it on this one.
on the dr retiring. I been through that twice. one other good one died in a car wreck.
my dentist now went to school with my son. not much you can do.

Well, look at it this way. Going forward your gums are the same age as you, but your teeth will be much younger. That's a plus.

Be sure to show off those new pearly whites.

For a guy who endured being shot at and hit in Nam, this should be gedunk. Hope you heal quickly, sir.

Not sure what I did wrong all these years. Here I am pushing 70 and never had a cavity. So I feel for ya, Sailor.

Best wishes with this procedure DS. No fun at all. I hope the outcome is good and they fit you just right with the dentures. That can be a trial and error type of effort from what I've heard.

When I finally had my teeth removed for dentures my gums were all stitched up. I had to have a friend drive me to the oral surgeon to have the procedure. Once done the doc told my buddy to stop at Wendy's and get me a Thick and Frosty. Well that didn't work as the Novocaine made my whole mouth numb and I just made a mess of my shirt with the drink. When I got home I was hungry and proceeded to eat some chicken salad. It was so good to finally eat something and my buddy was surprised that I could eat anything.

Since I have had severe arthritis all my life my tolerance for pain is high and the discomfort from eating the salad was minimal for me.

Thanks, everyone. The good news is I'm healing fast; the bad news, which I just heard today, is that the surgeon isn't sure she got those boney ridges taken down far enough. I go back in four weeks for a re-evaluation, which may mean opening up the gums and doing more grinding. What joy. In the meantime I look like I went a couple of rounds with the heavyweight champ!

Actually, she reminds me a lot of Pirate Girl ... in the face at least! :w00t2::whistling::yum:

For whatever it's worth, both sides of the face from the cheekbones down
to underneath the jaw are black, streaked with a real pretty purple tone.
(At least, that's Dragonfly Lady's take; I personally think I look like hell!)

Hey bud, you have my sympathy.

I haven't quite reached that stage yet but I think that it's fast approaching as my dentist told me yesterday that my teeth are becoming "mobile". What the hell does that mean???

I'm told that getting used to wearing dentures is not a lot of fun either and it takes several "fittings" before they become comfortable. Best of luck and heal quickly. :flowers::flowers:
