.... builds a lake .... in Texas .... during the summer .... in the middle of a drought.
Even I got tired of moving tractors, mowers and other miscellaneous stuff around in order to get a specific vehicle or piece of equipment out in order to do a specific task. So I told my wife that I'm finally going to build a barn to, at least, get all the agricultural machinery out of the driveway and the garage. "Great" she said, "If you're going to spend that much money on a barn, there's no reason I can't have my lake".
She's been asking me to build a lake out back ever since we moved here 17 years ago. We've got the perfect spot for it but it's always been one of my "yea, yea" projects. She'd say that she wants a lake and I'd say, "Yea, yea".
Anyway, I finally gave in and they started ripping the trees out in the draw to start to build the good woman her longed for lake. It'll probably take about 3 weeks to get the work done and the dam built and for the next several years we're going to have this big, unsightly hole in the pasture. When it's finished it'll probably cover between 3 to 4 acres and it'll be pretty deep, 35 feet at the dam and tailing off towards the south.
If the truth be told, I should have done this about 15 years ago but I'm stubborn and I'm never going to admit it, especially to my wife. Right now my only ambition is to live long enough to see it fill up with water and be able to catch my first fish. The way things are that could take about 5 years, if ever. At least it'll be about 4 acres of really steep hillside that I won't have to mow or spray for a while. See, there's always a bright side to everything.
