On Demand Hot Water Heaters

Does anyone have any experience with or own one of these electric tankless on demand hot water heaters? If so, I have a few questions about them. Do you like it like? Cost to operate? What brand did you buy? I'm looking to install one that will take care of the whole house. Installing single point of use heaters is out of the question in my house. TIA, Jim

First step is to verify that you have the available electrical capacity. Last I checked, they require 240VAC @ 50A minimum.

This page has a chart showing the electrical requirements for different sizes. They go as high as 240VAC @ 150A.

Hi Dave, I have a 200 amp service with quite a few open spaces. The unit I think that I will need will require two 50amp circuits to run. We will have to watch what is on whe we use the hot water or we may do a brown out or blow the main breaker. I could upgrade to a bigger amp panel if need be. I also have a power transformer right out at the light pole at the street. Power shouldn't be an issue for me.

We have lots on them in Panama . In fact in Panama City that is about all you will find . They seem to work very well . I have no idea how much power they pull but the showers were always nice and hot .

We put one in for my brother in law. He really likes his. He has not ever said anything about his electric bill but he does love the operation of it.
