Old friend not doing so good.

I have a buddy I grew up with in Michigan, we have known each other since around 12years old. During the early part of our lives we raised a lot of hell together, with stories from that time that you have to water down to get people to believe it. We both moved from Michigan to Ca. with 2 unemployment checks and a rickety old car to Southern Ca. in 1980. We did Southern Ca. in the 80's so use your imagination. In later years I moved to Northern Ca. and we went separate ways with him returning to Michigan but always stayed in touch. Around 2003 he got diagnosed with MS, he has slowly but steadily declined. He was admitted to a convalescent hospital about 5 years ago because his wife could no longer lift him. He continued to deteriorate and last year told me he had a stroke. He is on every medication imaginable and that also has taken a toll. About 6 months or so ago he stopped responding to text and the phone just goes to voicemail. Today I got a message from his family that he got pneumonia and had to be transferred to a hospital in Detroit. I am praying for him but expecting the worse.

Sad. But, might be a blessing for him.

He got the shitty end of the stick. Dying shouldn't take 20 years. But it is what it is, life isn't fair sometimes.

I can relate both ways. We watched dads dad die over 20 years from diabetes losing one toe at a time until he had a stump on one foot and a stump below the knee on the other leg. His eyesight went. When we asked him if there was anything we could get him, he said "A f--king gun". My dad always said he didn't want to suffer like his dad did and go quick. He did. While reconnecting air lines on his trailer on a lowbed behind a peterbilt, the brakes released allowing the truck and trailer to roll backwards downhill sucking him under the tires crushing him instantly. Sucks for us but dad got his wish.
