Okay Snow-Trac guru's, what is that for?

On the right-hand variator they chose to throw in a MYSTERY component. It is a thin piece of metal (bent in the middle and oddly shaped) which looks more like a shield than a bracket. It is held in place by two of the three bolts for the lower tower. This metal thingy has a very small "ear" bent on it (lower end) that is held in place by tucking underneath a u-bolt that is connected to .....? the frame I think. What the H is that for? (picture taken from mike's rebuild). Note that there isn't one on the other side.

That's a "Home-Made" piece, not FACTORY. It either was for attaching the return spring for the brake cylinder or for activating the heater control boxes. The heater controls are pretty crude and just had a flat rod to control them, it didn't work that well. The Return spring for the brake master cylinder likewise just had one turn of the spring wrapped arount one of these 2 bolts. Also very "Crude".

Hmmm. Mine has the same exact piece that snowcat ops photo showed. Mine has nothing attached to it. I almost removed it when tightening bolts but decided to leave it.

That is the vibratory buzzer. It is precisely tuned to generate a loud buzzing and vibrating sound between 2100 and 2150 engine RPM when the temperature is below 12.3 deg F.
