Anyone involved? I got my notice the other day. I resigned from my position in Ohio on 5/23 but I do have some concern. Anyone sign up for the free one year Debix security protection?

Ohio data theft deepens

Stolen device has information on 1.1 million people and businesses:

"COLUMBUS - Surrounded by top Cabinet officials wearing forlorn faces, Gov. Ted Strickland announced Wednesday that the theft of state data last month was deeper than previously thought and personal tax, Social Security and other information potentially affecting 675,000 more individuals is on the mysterious, unidentified device stolen from an intern's car.

Strickland moved quickly to mail notices to taxpayers, former state employees dating back to 1999, vendors who had conducted business with the state and others as the seemingly minor crime continues to broaden and possibly threaten the financial security of an estimated 859,852 individuals and 258,529 businesses, vendors, school districts and others for a total of 1,118,381.

The governor repeated that people who believe their information could be in the data can search their name on a state Web site or call a toll-free number for assistance.

My wife just received her letter yesterday saying her name and info were stolen. They offered 1 year of free Debix protection. She has never been a state employee. They must have out and out lied when they let on it was only state employee data that was stolen.

I'm also interested if anyone has had any dealings with Debix. They are out of Texas, so I'd guess they offer their service nationwide.

Well when first broke it was reported as 64K state employees and 338K total, it is now over 1.1 million ...........:shitHitFan:. What the hell is that information doing in a employees car?

I must not have been paying attention .... I thought it was only state employees data that was on the stolen media.

The letter plays it down saying it would take special equipment and knowledge to be able to extract the data from the stolen media. Duh! But, whoever stole it knew that. It's not that hard to extract that data but they want to play it down.
I see our taxes going up to pay for this fiasco. :pat:

Doc,
There was a second data tape in the interns car at the same time and only one was stolen. It's likely that the thief never knew what he/she had until it hit the news.
And after viewing the image of the tape itself (size and shape), it probably wouldn't be compatible with any typical PC. Just my opinion on that though.
