Decided on a 24" ViewSonic monitor.. this is going to take some getting used to..:w00t2: LOL
Still have to mess with the way the colours are displayed, and learn to sit 4 feet away from the desk.. :yum:

The old one--

The control buttons on the side are a PITA when trying to adjust the colour properly.
Got the sound going, now to working on the way it looks.
This monitor cost $191.69 at Office Depot.

Thanks Galvi, I am so far.
Just wish I could figure how to get the colours right.
Your online light and reps are a bright yellow, and your helmet looks black and blue.

You guys make me feel really cheap. Where I am right now I'm still using an old 21" Dell CRT monitor. It's almost 2 feet deep and weighs about 50 pounds. It was a monster in its day but I think that was close to 20 years ago.

Just to complete your belly laugh, it's connected up to my wife's old Lenovo laptop with a crapped out screen and the HP printer came off an old Mac setup that hadn't even been switched on in 5 years. There isn't one thing there except the external hard drive and the keyboard that is newer than probably 10 or 12 years.

It's not easy being Scottish but I think that I may have to break down and get a whole new set-up this fall. :yum::yum:

Well at least it will make it easier to see things on the screen. The old ones were hard on the eyes after a while. And it makes pictures a lot better.:brows::clap::clap:

Just be sure your computer is set to match the resolution of the new monitor otherwise the text is gonna be saw edged & blurry.

Did that Grizz, it's set at 1920x1080.. where it told me it should be.
When I first started it up today, it was way out of whack.
Everything's good now except for the colours.

blue is purple
green is yellow
red is black grrrrrrrr

BUT, I now also have a backup system!
My son Jeff came over and gave me his old Dell laptop since he recently got a new one, so now next time I am out of touch, I won't be.

I checked that post I made to Galv saying the colours were off..
No they weren't, just to my eyes on this monitor.
Yes, I'm a comp illiterate fool. :bonk:

:yum::yum::yum:

O M G!!

I AM an idiot!!

The lighting in this room determines the way the colours appear on the monitor??

Suddenly it's normal?
I didn't do anything different!

Flat screen tv's change some with lighting in the room they are in. It is usually only when the light hits the screen from a window.

Once this room was only lit from my lamp on the table and the monitor itself did I notice the change.
Weird for me, but probably not so much for people who are seasoned owners of computers like this with LED back light?

The laptop the wife uses seems that way. She closes the drapes in the late afternoon or the colors look different on her games.

Might help to turn down the screen brightness.

Here is the USN website for action photos that can be used for wallpaper. This one is the newest carrier USS George W Bush transiting under the Freedom Bridge, Suez canal. I believe it was it's first combat mission.

Thank you very much, Grizz!
I think I managed to find the right mix and finally it's working as it should, every time I reboot and for as long as the system is on.

Thanks too for the USN website!

Okay, here's one.
If we're talking Nimitz-class.. then........

That brought back some memories .

About 20 years ago I was working on a jack-up rig not too far south of the Suez Canal. We were located between Sinai and Egypt just off the shipping channel and actually drilling under the shipping channel.

There must have another disturbance in the Middle East because a whole carrier group came through the Canal from the Mediterranean heading in that direction. It was so close to the rig. It was an incredible sight. I was actually standing on the rig's helideck looking UP at the darned thing. Unless you've actually seen one up close, it's difficult to describe just how humungous those things are. It was awe inspiring watching them all go by, thinking to yourself, "Man, I hope nobody pisses them off. They'll be sorry".
