Now it's Una

johnday

The Crazy Scot, #3
4th friend I've had to put down, in about as many months. I had to put my Big Girl down today. A month ago yesterday, I had to have Suzie put down, a month before that, Princess, one of our cats. Just before that, it was Monroe, a happy little Beagle/Lab mix.
Una will be going upnorth, as did Suzie. She'll be laid next to Suzie ofcourse. When will it end? Una was a very beautiful 110# of Malamute, 10 1/2 years young. I'll miss her very badly.

Sorry John. We put down our Malamute (Thunder) 14 years ago. I still think of him. In fact he was such a great dog that I've never been able to get another Malamute. I wish I could offer some helpful advice, but I really don't know any.

Sorry for your losses John. I've lost a lot of great pets over the years and I know it never gets any easier. Hutch

Thanks guys for the kind words. I reckon when you've got as many animals as Jan and I, you better be prepared for these things.
We noticed 2 weeks ago that something was wrong, Una just wasn't herself, then she perked up and was fine until today. She couldn't get up, peeing all over herself, breathing was labored, and lethargic, wouldn't eat or drink either. She always had problems going to the vet. She was frightened to death of her. So instead of trying to get her in, I wound up putting her down. She was relaxed and with 2 people that cared about her, and she knew that. She never knew what happened. I'm not happy for doing it, but it truly was the best way for her.

Sorry for your loss John & Jan. Very tough, and all these so close together make it even tougher I'm sure. It's tough, but you did what you had to do, like PB said ...Good Man!!!!!

John-
I'm sure Una is up there in heaven playing with Suzie and the other lads waiting for you and Jan.

Not to get too philosophical, but isn't it amazing how events such as this make you realize how trivial most of lifes other "problems" are?

Take care,
Bone

Jay; Yes you're right. Everything I'd planned to do this afternoon went by the wayside. Nothing else seemed really that important after Una was gone. Jan and I spent the day basically just talking about what happened, and about things that went on with her the day I brought her home. Who could have imagined the little pup couldn't even climb the front steps. And when I brought her home from the breeder, it was cold outside, and she snuggled into my jacket for warmth. She was my Big Girl from the time I picked her out.

Thanks to the late comers who replied with the very kind and bolstering thoughts.

So, sorry for your loss. We've had Barney, a beautiful siamese cat that we had for 18 years, he just left home one day and never returned, and a golden lab we called Red. We had to have him put down too for medicial reasons. It is so hard, because they are family.

It is awful losing a member of your family, because that it what they are. What can one say, apart from our thoughts are with you at this very sad time.
