My summer ride is still in the paint shop getting repainted. It will be a 2 tone blue/white when its done, but here are "before" pictures detailing some of the problems that I had to deal with:

wow nice .. is this is a kaiser jeep? construction year about 1954 ?
certainly a nice convertible

regards Arno

Yes, it is a Kaiser. The model is Jeepster Deluxe Convertible. But the year is 1967. So it is the more modern body style with real roll up windows in the doors. I'm replacing the front seats with high back seats so there is whiplash protection in case of an accident. We hope to fashion a simple roll bar that still fits under the convertible top too, again in case of an accident . . . I have a teenage driver in the house :ermm:

Don, I think yours is a bit more practical than mine.

like every thing i own it has to work more than play and yes no teen age drivers sway bars removed and lift kit can equal disaster if you have a short attention span

Hey Don, you are living in a fantastic aria, your pictures always incredible in the time you come to Europe it will be anything nero/smal for you - here it is not so easy to go legal off rod

nice JEEP looks like you have a lot of Fun over there
you wrote = v-8 removed
was it to heavy vor offrod ?

OK, the Unimogs are way too cool. Would really like to have one someday but a snowcat is higher priority right now.

Cletis

JEEP an fantastic vehicle, years a go I had an Willy,s Jeep I rebuilt them more than 3 Years / Model Year 1941 – I drive al over Europe with him for Vacation/ Holliday with an small trailer to put the tent and the frich in (to have cold Beer in the camp ground )
When one the Willy,s are anything original (including tires) he drives so nice and quiet

When I was a student I need the money and the biggest mistake I did was, to sell him :-(

too much power around here the first 2 to 3 feet of ground is thawed than every thing else is still froze if you tear up the vegitation when driving over it the trail will become a bottomless quagmire next trip out i will shoot some pics of the snow trac crossing some some were made from larger equipment and some were made from high hp quads the bottom line is the holes are 3 to 4 feet deep now also gas is 5 bucks a gallon and you never drive around on our roads much faster than 340 mph any ways, ajeep cant pull a large trailer so what do i need a big v8 for if i can have inline 6 torque

if you ever get a hankerin to visit my part of the world you will certainly get a free tour looking at some pics of your home if there is a place in europe i would like to see the black forest sits right there with iceland norway sweeden and switzerland. its verry pretty country people are a bit liberal but all seem polite and friendly.

That's one BEAUTIFUL Unimog Arno! It looks to be an early one too. What year is it? I see it has no Mercedies symbol so it was manufactured well before they merged with Mercedies. Nice! Tres Bon! Danke!

I'll be driving a beautiful Unimog 416 with my plane on a trailer behind it in the Labor Day parade advertising our "friends of the airport" group and our Airport Day next Saturday.

I'll try to get some photos to post here of the rig and the event...

Hey Lyndon , you are good in UNIMOG you are ride this UNIMOG is one oft he first on. It is an Boeringer. The Cabin is production year 1952 manufacture by MERCEDES BENZ in Gaggenau. (close to Karlsruhe)
In the first year the vehicle was similar to the Boeringer so der is no MERCEDES star one the UNIMOG.

So in die end it is en Boeringer Manufactured by MERCEDES in the UNIMOG Factory(first Production year by Mercedes)

Captain Larry, thanks for the photo looks nice. I am didn’t see any UNIMOG in the US – so there probably not many a round. The U416 on the picture looks like an ex. Military UNIMOG. From where is this UNIMOG from Canada ?

There are many Unimog's in US. There are CLUBS and organizations of owners. One of the Tree Trimming companies that is nationwide , Asplund Tree services, http://asplundh.com/ had many. They are also used by the US armed forces, primarily US ARMY. Ski areas and state road departments have them as well.

I rode in one at a Mercedies dealership in Reno Nevada in the late 60's and again in the early 70's at a ski area in Vermont. Not so good on the highway, but unbeatable 'off-road'.

Pinzgauer's also show up at the Unimog 'meets' in California. A stock Pinzgauer or Unimog will usually out perform any american made 4 wheel vehicle even "rock crawlers" with giant tires and all sorts of added and beefed-up equipment. They are very formidable equipment.

I recently checked out a new big Unimog at a Freightliner dealer. It's overall height was the same as an over the road tractor. But I still have a preference for the early models, especially Arno's!

That particular 416 came from CA with it's current owner, Tom. He has taken it through Africa and (I think) South America with a camper body on the rear.

I was a little surprised at the lack power from the motor and lack of room in the cab. Still it is a very interesting and extremely rugged vehicle.

I know that Lyndon disagrees with me, but I think he needs a new project. And early Unimog would be the ticket! I remember him telling me about the machine in Vermont back in the early 70s. He told of walking around the entire machine before a wheel made one revolution. Talk about gearing!!
