Will at last I have the skidozer repaired and took it for its first test run. It will go in all gears except 2nd. Anyone know what I need to check to fix this or do you think something maybe stuck and it might come clear after some use?? My $4700. investment as now topped somewhere around $15000. I had a lot of work on this machine,,, new gears in the diff, new tracks, new tires, new hydrolic pump, new seats and I still have a few minor repairs left to do. :X :X Please don't tell me I need a new transmission. Thanks

You must own one of those $15,000 pieces of @&%$ one of the other guys was talking about? :poke: Just kidding, trying to make you smile!:reacharou

First thing is: You can NEVER spend too much money on your snowcat. Repeat this until you believe it........because your wife never will.

Second thing: Anything can be repaired or replaced, it only takes money.

Third thing: When faced with the second thing, repeat the first thing.

Also if you were to give the make and model of your transmission I bet someone on here knows them inside and out.

Best of luck.:flowers:

That made me smile.:smile::smile:
Sorry I forgot to give the model.Its a skidozer SV-301. Perkins motor, I don't know the model of transmission.Thanks

does that machine have a 4 speed or five speed
I think its a 4 speed, that all the groves I can find. The stick shift seem to go in the grove for the 2nd gear about the same as for 3rd and 4th, but for 1st and reverse it seems to drop in the groves alot farther.

Can you get to the top of the transmission without great difficulty? If so, be sure the transmission is in neutral, remove all the top cover bolts and the top should lift off. You can clamp the top cover into a vise by the edge and inspect the shifting linkages and shift it into all the gears to see if there is a reason that the linkage is the problem. That being done, the second gear will be just forward of the rear of the trans. Look at the very fine teeth at the rear of the gear. They may be covered by the brass syncro ring which you can move a little but enough to check it out. Likely you only have broken syncro ring or someone trying to get it into that gear rounded off those fine teeth on the gear and inside the shifting slider(ring).

Thanks I will check this when I get the chance.

Sounds like a good plan of attack. Isolate the top cover, rule out potential shift rail issues and check your syncros. They will be gold colored when looking in at the mainshaft gear set. Good luck. Best regards.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I will check this when I have the chance. We have been have -20c to -30c weather the past couple of days, and I am building a drag for this groomer. When this is built I will put the groomer in the garage and check this. Too coooooold to to it outdoors. I will post a pic of the drag. Thanks again.
