Nieghboring ranch house blew up !!

BigAl

Gone But Not Forgotten
Not quite sure when it blew up but the other ranch nieghbor was looking across the valley at his nieghbors place and something did not appear to look right .

All the walls were blown out and the roof fell in . Since we could smell heavy propane , that is the suspect . Owners were gone to their winter place so no one was hurt .

Seems strange that this would happen now . Not enough snow to push down and break stuff . The owner was a interesting guy and the biggest ranch owner in the area . I am not so sure it was an accident .:unsure:

Sorry to here, but sadly that happens far to much this time of year. Folks just aren't carefull enough with propane or lack the knowledge to do the annual upkeep thats needed IMO.

There has been 5 different explosions of that type in our area recently , only one had any fatalities, but it took the whole family of 5.

I found out today he just had a new gas wall heater installed about a month ago . Want to bet what caused the explosion ???

I don't know who installed it , but I am damn glad it was not me . The fire marshall is comming out to take a look tomorrow as to the cause .

I guess all the nieghbors heard the explosion , but I was in Lewiston , about 150 mile away at the time they think it blew up .

Propane sinks to the ground or floor and spreads out like water. It can go a long time and really build up till it has an ignition source. I saw a house that blew from a propane leak about 8 years ago. The kitchen counter and sink were lodged in a tree about 30 ft. above the ground. Stuff was scattered over a couple acres around the basement walls. Leak check is your friend when you install gas appliances. I have found small leaks on stuff that was installed for years. You should also check it with a water column gage to make sure it holds pressure for 1/2 hour.

propane can accumulate to the concentrations till it can be explosive but lp is a safe fuel in the sence that it has a verry narrow window that it will burn at
