Hi!

I found this place in a link on someones sig. So I checked it out and it seemed to be a good fit for me.

I live on a small farm and I love to camp, fish, play on heavy equipment and do anything outside and I am a PROUD single parent of 2 boys. My job, I mainly operate a Vermeer horizontal directional drill, but I also operate other Case equipment like - 580 super L & M, Case 475 plow cat, 560, 660 and 860 Case trenchers and stuff like that. I love my job. I look forward to meeting you all. Oh, I also have a passion for cooking, smoking meats and grilling out ect.. How would you like your steak?

Welcome Ironchef!

I'm not sure how I like my steak, I think I need to sample some more! In general I like stuff a little burned on the edges!
:flame2:

I've heard those directional drills are quite a challenge to operate. How about an overview of what you can do with them and some of the challenges (or screw-ups) that you run into!

Welcome again,

PB

Steak should be medium rare, seared on the outside. Preferably with a modest sprinkling of Hawaiian pink salt. Served with a double baked/stuffed potato or a baked sweet potato and some spicey oiled & pan fried asparagas or snowpeas.

I don't smoke meats but love to use the BBQ for beef, turkey, duck, goose and chicken.

That is perfect! I could not have said it better myself. The asparagas tastes great on the grill too.

Welcome Ironchef. I for one would be interestedin hearing more about your work with the trenchers and horizontal drill. Many of us here are tractor owners, and I just cant get enough seat time this time of year.
Cheers,
Bonehead

Thanks PB!

I'll call up my ex to burn a steak for you.:D

Directional drilling involes drilling an underground hole, horizontally mixed with a mud mixture. I can steer my pipes around tree's and go through peoples yards and they never knew I was there. I have a guy out in front of me to locate where I am going. It can be a challenge but it comes easy for me because I enjoy doing it. I can drill for over a thousand feet, hook on to a pipe and pull it back. One day I was pulling back 2 pipes so I had to ream the hole on the way back. The reamer was just big enough to rupture a gas service to the fire department (good thing they were gone at the time!!) Good times...:pat:

Welcome Ironchef! Where are you at north of the Cheddar Curtain? :hide:

I'm in northern Illinois, south of Rockford.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys. Bonehead, I love seat time - I grew up on heavy equipment. Right now we have carbide tipped teeth on our biggest turbo charged trencher and it really eats up the ground. When I was younger I would see how far I could ride a backhoe on two wheels without tipping over, lol.

I'm just above of the border, directly north of Rockford on Cheddar drive, lol, you are not far away at all.

Welcome Ironchef!

I'm not as detailed as others. A nice strip or rib-eye, pink in the middle on a plate is all I need. At the table, salt preferred, silverware optional.

That drilling sounds way too cool. Please create a thread with details as I'm sure many of us would be interested.

Many on this site have equipment of some kind. One of my partners owns an excavation company but doesn't let me play with his big stuff... yet. He's getting a new excavator tomorrow so maybe he'll let me play with some of his other stuff since he now has a new toy.

Man, I wish you (and your drill) lived closer! I just spent a few hours trying to go under my driveway. I welded a 18 foot section of pipe and fitted it to my pressure washer and was hoping I could blast under my driveway to run some wires. No go! Too many rocks for that trick!

Now I have to cut through the asphalt with a slab saw! Grrrrr!

Don't cut! I have a friend down by you that could help out possible. PM me if you are interested. You could also - maybe rent a pneumatic piercing tool somewhere? I call them "hole hogs" and I suck at explaining things, but this is what they look like:

http://www.alliedcp.com/products/hogs.asp - I would try something else for sure, so you don't have to deal with a patch in your drive.

bczoom, like I said before, I really stink at explaining things, but someday when I get brave I'll try to start a thread. I'm still getting the feel of the community, and I like it. Thanks again guys!

Edit: PB, I thought you were the one that lived in Ill. Sorry!

Thanks for the tip! That hole hog seems very cool!

The good news is that I only need to cut a 1/4 inch groove to bury some Cat5 ethernet cable and a 16 Gauge cable for a gate opener. I think I can patch the thin cut fairly easily.

Still a pain though.

Welcome Ironchef, I like my steaks medium rare with chips (probably called fries by you people), mushrooms, tomatoes, and onion rings. I too, like barbecues, but because of our lousy weather am very rarely able to have them! At present I am still requiring snow, and again, our lousy weather is not giving me any.

Welcome Ironchef. Good choice for a member name. :thumb:

I like my steak medium. A little red in the middle. I prefer a baked potatoe with all the fixings for a side.
I hope you share some of you smokin techniques. I've had the interest, but have not bought the grill to do it since I read it takes very low heat and all day to cook.

Thank you, Ice Queen! ;)

It looks like you get only the best for your community. If you didn't use vB I wouldn't be here. Great job!

Steaks are done guys, come and get it! Beers are in the fridge so help yourself.:D
