Just picked up this new little toy to do some mining this winter… I’m having a hard time tracking down a service/parts manual for it… the date of manuf, appears to be in the 80’s. It has a ford 400 with ap/r/n/d transmission in it.. this will be my first winter up here with this track rig so I’m looking for some tips to do a little pre winter work before the snow flies.

A friend is trying to explain to me that I need to drain the front diff or to check for water, I cannot seem to find anywhere underneath this beast for a drain plug. (Is that what is pictured with the inside cab photo?)

also to get access to what I’m being told are bands that’s control the turning, I’m assuming I need to take the fuel tank off to get access to them??

Welcome. These things become an addiction. Our FF are the opposite of "AA" of snowcats, mostly we enable the purchase of more snowcats! Glad to have you here. Share your adventures.

Welcome to the insanity. if you haven't yet, check http://www.goldcordmine.com/manuals/ to see if you have one there, or a close relative. Do a search on ebay as well, frequently there are copies or cd's.

As far as other things to look for: rips, tears across the belts. A small tear isn't bad, but they grow exponentially. Check your fuel tank, lines, filters for debris, rust, etc. Drive cogs, check for chunks missing. depending on how long it's sat, water in the transmission, drives, etc. The list goes on, but my best advise is play within walking distance to check. Do laps at least twice as far as you expect to run. find a hill like you think you be on, get half way up and turn the ignition off,see how it goes....

but don't be scared, have fun, share adventures.

Looks like a Muskeg tractor made by Bombardier. The engine isn't original. The machine is older than 1970. Those flat straps outside the tracks were the early version. Later, they had round bars.

Yes, you need t remove the front cover to access the brake bands. Drain might be on the side of the case by the drive axle.
