New Thiokol Spyte Owner

Hi all, I'm just getting into this tracked vehicle thing and need all the help I can get.I don't have a manual for my Spryte, but I can tell you a little about it. It drives but needs some maintenence in steering. Also the brakes aren't working right now. It has a 289 Ford engine in it and I'm told it is a 1962 model year. It has a single centered seat and a small bench seat in back.My plan is to relocate the steering to the left side, widen and lenthen the cabin to make it a true at least 4 place unit. I plan on welding all new steel square tubing for the wider cabin and cover it with aircraft grade aluminum.I'm very interested in overhauling the mechanicals in it and will at the first opportunity change all the fluids in it and lube it. I also got a snow groomer with it and plan on selling it before too long.I would also like to look into welding up a plow mount for it on the front, but I need to look into how substantial the frame is and whether it will take the abuse. I live in Minnesota and don't plan on heavy plowing but just my driveway etc.I'm looking forward to hearing from fellow tracksters. Regards, freflite

Well that sounds like a good long summer project. We've got several Spryte owners who frequent here and some have done some extensive reworking of their units. When you have specific questions, posting photos showing the problems is a sure way to get help (if you have trouble posting photos any of the moderators can help you out, you can contact me, or send messages to bczoom, DaveNay, BigDog, PBinWA BoneheadNW and we can help you out).

Sounds like a ton of work, Give me a PM and may be we can work out some ideas ~~NIGHT-OWL~~ in the GR RPDS area !
