new snowcat by the barn

Has been two years since selling my BR60+ and no snowcat, Found a great 1985 252d Skidozer that I could afford. Needs cosmetics but seems to be in real good mechanical condition. Have not gone far, but rear drive very different from front drive on BR60. Do need more snow, but looks like a storm in a few days. Back in the saddle again!!!

Congratulations  Looks good.

Do you have the 2 speed shifter with the diesel ?

I sure hope we get some snow so you can get a 'fix' :flowers:

What's that white pipe for ? Fording kit ? :yum:

One tough cookie if the operator knows how to run it...

Keep the water out of the rear end, and tractor oil in it. Make sure the pump belted to the drive shaft is hooked up and working, it sprays oil on the ring and pinion. Find and use ALL the grease zerks, including inside the rear drive grears for the tracks.

Still a good cat if you don't have to be hydorstatic drive. Just keepit up and in top shope, and there is no reason it won't go much farther. How many hours on the merer? Is it a Diesel?

Regards, Kirk

Has the non turbo, 4 cyl perkins turbo with a new process 5 speed manual. Enjoyed the allison automatic in the br60, this is like my old muskeg with a 5 speed.
Will get a good chance to run it tomorrow and then grease grease and clean it up. Does look well maintained by the snowmobile club I got it from!
Thanks all!!!

Makes sense. This cat was used in pretty open areas. I am in heavy woods, and surely don't need debris, snow or rain getting in there!!!
Now for a good run today!!!

I think that pipe is going to disappear!! Has a screen, but fills up with snow too easy!! Maybe I can use the piping for a new john.

If you think the pipe is helping airflow, cut it off so it's the same hieght as the fuel tank and point it to the rear ??

Hope you got some snow and got to play a little today :flowers:

I think the cold air intake is good, but the screen ices up and clogs to easy!! Not sure what the original looked like, but putting it behind the cab and putting a better intake cap is a better idea. Did get out for a better ride, less than 6 inches of snow on the ground. Found 2 broken grousers, 1 track guide needed and the clutch master cylinder needs rebuilding. Otherwise, look like a good machine!!! Steering levers could use an adjustment!!
