New method of clearing snow from the driveway

I have always had multiple problems with clearing the snow on the driveway...

The snowblower is really most efficient when it has A LOT of snow to feed into it, so when there is only 3" or so, it doesn't work so good.

The big tractor with the straight blade has the problem that if I push the snow to either side of the drive, it will cause severe drifting.

So today, I tried a new method. First I use the big tractor, but I move the snow to the CENTER of the driveway...down one side and back up the other.

Now that there is a nice big line of snow right down the center of the drive, I switch tractors and use the blower to send the snow 50' down wind.

Worked like a charm! No canyon effect from the plow and a nice efficient single pass with the blower.

I've thought of doing that in the past but I didn't have two tractors and switching implements is too much hassle. Now that I have snow plow on my truck it might be worth a try. :thumb:

For a inch or two I've used a leaf blower it also melts and clears it. Now this does assume it is snow and not ice.

We used to do it like that on big commercial lots. We used a quarry wheel loader instead of a blower but worked good for moving a lot of snow.

With a plow on your truck instead of a tractor, you can get up enough speed to throw the snow far enough that a second pass with the blower isn't needed.

This is how I do it. My driveway is about 1/2 mile long.

My driveway is about 1800' long. I would deserve a Darwin Award if I tried to clear it with a leaf blower.

Joe, Powdery snow certainly can be blown away by a leaf blower. We sell them to car dealers to blow off that 1/2 inch to inch of snow that collects over night on the cars on their lot. And we make it clear that wet sloppy snow - or ice is a no go. BUT what the hell is this"
it also melts and clears it.
How does that work?:whistling:

Turn the blower around and use the exhaust from the engine? This will also leave a nice, rust preventing, oily layer on all surfaces de-iced...
