My first tracks!!!

benz9

New member
Good morning group,
I've spent the week reading every post in this group, priming myself for this moment. It's currently -18C here in the nations capitol area, still dark at 06:30, just warming up the truck for the trek to pick up my baby. Camera's memory card is empty, spare batteries in the case, will take lotsa pics and post later (this is supposed to be a running machine) so I might be busy having fun for a while. This forum really is the best in the world, thank you all for being here. Now, off to the pick up :whistling:

OK Benz9........its almost 12:30pm.....still no pics!!!....whats taking so long:whistling:
Anyways...WELCOME to the site:thumb:

Next, we had to stop and get fuel...for the truck, and the bodies. If America runs on Dunkin, Canada truly runs on Timmies!

Got there, checked the goods, did a few turns to try it out, plopped it on the trailer and home we went. You may notice it's a little bigger than my previous snow machine :w00t2:

And then, I went and got stuck, trying it out...Doh! All in all, was a great day! Love my tracks and will surely do more work on it once it gets warmer, it was -19C when I finally got it out and parked it for the night. Now, it's beer time! See ya.

Nice !!

Thanks for the pics and welcome to the club.

Winch looks good ....does it work ?

Hey Pixie, first, lemme tell ya that your project really inspired me to move forward on this beast. So thanks. As for the winch, it didn't pull me out of that hole. It turns but doesn't seem to have any power. As soon as it starts to force, it stops turning. Give me a couple days to discover my new toy, and see if I need to post in the repair section...hehehe...

Its about time!!!......I've been sitting in front of this PC all day waiting & waiting for the pics, well at least the wife is happy now that I can get up and do something today:yum:

OK seriously now... congratulations on your new "tool", BUT these pics are only good enough for now, we will expect MORE:brows: That trailer you used is the same make of trailer I have, made by TrailTech I bought mine in Canada. I think there made in Saskatchewan Canada.

hard to believe that hole got it stuck i know i wsa stugk in sa simalar hole but i broke it when i did and only had one track driving that was a bad day. hope yo have lots of fun looks like you need some glass and a cote of paint other wise it looks pretty good

Actually, most of the glass came with it, just not installed yet. Paint is a given, but since I live in Canada where there are only two seasons, Winter and Construction, I have to wait for the next one to have enough heat to sandblast/paint. It really needs a new right side sprocket (missing two teeth), new prestone (after just 30 minutes, I could hear the juices boiling), and some kinda muffler since it's exhausting inside the engine compartment right now. But at -20C, working on engines/tracks is not fun, even inside the garage (not heated). I'll see what I can do tomorow. Thanks to you all for the great posts and replies and support!

Glad you were able to get unstuck ! I was sitting in my Kristi waiting for the call:sad: .....OH well... next time for sure !!!:w00t2::yum:
I'm afraid you got the fever bad now ...........

Al you got that right, it is a sickness :yum:

Something tells me that will move snow a lot quicker than the little red tractor parked in front of the garage.

Yep ! Thats for sure !

That "little red tractor" actually appears to be one of the first SnotTracs ever made . They were a open cab design back then ..... Serial #1 was peddle powered .:yum::yum:

Is it always like this??? Big Al, I would have loved a little pull to get out of that ice patch. Since there aren't too many snow cats around where I live (except those that actually do move snow for the city), some curious dudes just stopped, checked the machine out, asked a couple of questions, and gave me the little yank it took to get out. It is a sickness and it's flowing thru my veins as we speak, I just came in from installing a new muffler. I quit smoking 7 days ago and this was my motivation. So everytime I feel like having a cigarette, I get to go out and work on my new cat! BTW, I'm keeping that little red tractor, the SW-48 isn't too good at cutting grass :-)

Oh, just wait until you drive it across the lawn in the summer before you make that judgement. Your wife may not be to happy with the tracks in the lawn, but you won't have to worry about growing grass :whistling:

you don't like mowing grass move here no body has a lawn and around here you don't need a trailer either just drive down the raod aand accross the tundra unless you have a krusty than you might need a trailer to drive it around

J5, Yes, it was on Kijiji and Usedottawa for a long time. Owner wanted to skid with it, but is now looking for a... mmmm, don't know the word in english... en francais --> Garette. Big 4 wheeled thing with pivot steering for pulling logs out of the woods. R U close to the national capitol? I don't plan on renting another trailer soon to move my SW, but would love to see your J5 if you're OK with that.
Didn't post yesterday, worked on the machine all day. Works much better with the tracks at the right tension. Got a question, but I'll go post in trouble section.
