Just purchased a 1989 muskeg with a winch and dump body. Fleet maintained!! 1100 hrs. Drives and feels good!!! Now can you guys tell me the good, bad and ugly about muskegs???????? anything to watch out for?? Big diffrence from driving the snowmaster!!

Muskegs are perhaps the toughest track rigs short of ones that have armor and carry guns. Good luck with the new rig!

the people i have talked to have complained about 4 times more maintenance to the hour of operatio than a snow trac the rigs they were running were the old rounded cab models and im betting the thaught odf pulling all the road wheels and changing bearings and seals tires never occured to them i understand they are about impossoble to walk out of the tracks and if they ride like a bombi get a suspension seat the one universal problem i ve herd about is water in the differential it's easy to keep in check by draining the water off the bottom every morning or draining the diff at night and putting the fluid in a freeser at night and pouring the oil off the top of the frozen water.

nice looking rig i'm also looking at one its quite a bit older has a 3-53 road oiler in it i want something bullet proof that i can lease out don't want to lease out muy snow trac the wrong operator can do too much damage to it

My muskeg has a 5 speed New process tranny. It sat for a few years, so the top bearings in the tranny were dry/rusty, so when it was moved, it popped the ball cage off of one bearing. This never caused any damage, as I seen the cage in the bottom of the case when I was going to install a PTO to drive a hydraullic pump. It would suggest taking a side plate off and having a look see. You should replace the oil in there anyway.

i was looking at one the other day had a detroit in it i would expect it to be a little hard on fuel but as far as diesels go the detroit is like the air cooled vw easy to work on ,parts aer cheap and abundant
