This was discussed on WBIW radio. Of course, DNR can't confirm until they have some sort of evidence.

Seems the prevailing train of thought is that these lions did not just wander over to Indiana by crossing the western states, swimming the Mississippi river and then making their way across the wasteland of Illinois just to set up homes in Indiana. Seems most people believe that the Indiana Dept of Natural Resources may have imported some back into the state to re-introduce the species. One would have to wonder why, given the terrain of the state, and given the fact that we have quite a dense population (at least compared to the western states) why the DNR would want to introduce mountain lions back into our state when said lions can just as easily eat the HUMANS as they can the local dogs, cats and assorted wild critters. Granted they existed here 150 years ago.

Perhaps to control our out-of-control whitetail deer population?
