Mount Rushmore

Pictures of the Mountain Goats in the parking lot. These guys were about as tame as a domesticated dog. They had used a car parked in from of this huge planter as a step to get in to some good grub. The person whos car that was used as a step was not to happy about it. As we were leaving to go to the Monument a lady pulled in to the parking spot. I told her it might not be a good idea but she just looked at me and didnt respond other than to get out and take a picture of the goats and walk towards the monument. My wife just chuckled and said she would be sorry. OK enough of the parking lot Goats so off to the monument!

Plenty of things for the kids to do as well. They had Tippis and a nice 1/2 mile trail. The trail takes you to the sculptures studios and more.

After we left the monument we went back to our car. On the way my wife chuckled and said "look". I looked to where she was pointing and it was the area where the Goats were at when we first arrived. The goats were gone and the ladies car was still parked there. The car now had almost perfect hoof marks on the front hood on each corner. One goat went left and the other right. LMAO! Anyway I hope you all enjoy these pictures. I took so many that my camera filled up its memory stick! These are the trips that your family will remember for the rest of there lives. I know mine will.

LOL yes they are "Humongous"!

Very cool!

I was there in '95, during bike week at Sturgis. There were 5 million bikes running around all over...

It really is an amazing site going there. Seeing the immensity of the monument, and the work required to make it.

We also went to the Crazy Horse monument that is under construction.

Me and two other co-workers stopped there on our way home from Chicago after 9/11. It must have been 9/13. It was foggy and like a ghost town. I think I need to go back when the mood is less somber.

Great thread Snow-Ops!

Been there a few times, first time was in 1984, before all the fancy stuff you see. In 1984 all there was, was a reception center about 1600 sq. ft and a parking lot that would hold 50 cars.

Last time was in 2002 and now it's a small city up there ....... commercialism at it's best.

I use to like to go to Cherokee, NC but won't do it anymore because of how commercial it is. I think all the cement just turns me off when it use to be so natural.

Seems to pretty nice to me but then again I havent been there since 1968! I was a bit to young to remember though.

Haven't been there in a couple years myself, but I do have to concur with BD, that I liked it a bit better with just the simple reception center.

Great pictures though SnoOps! :thumb:

Still on my bucket list for sure. Thanks for the pics! We will probably wait until the little one is older before we head north. Great pics for sure! Sounds like you need a bigger card too... :poke:

Thanks for the pics and memories. I was there I think in 94 or 95. Things look a little different since I was there. Can't remember what year now with my parents on a family vacation. Took the motorhome down through north dakota into south dakota, managed to somehow hit sturgis bike week without even realizing it till we were driving down the main drag in sturgis in the motorhome and were surrounded by bikes and bikers. Great trip. From there, we covered all the northern states to Maine then crossed over to Nova Scotia on the ferry.

Same here.. the last time I remember it, there wasn't any of that other stuff there. Then again, I was just a kiddo, but I remember seeing it, camping and having a good time with my grandparents, brother and sister and an aunt and uncle.

For myself, one of the best Bluegrass festivals I ever attended was hled right around there.

Forget the years, but not as much stuff as snowcats pics was there at the time.

Man if any of you ever get the chance this is a bucket list place to go.
The pictures you provided make me feel like I've covered it.

I was planning on going there this past summer but it ended up being a bit out of our way from where we were in WY and the Sturgis event was the following weekend so everything got pretty crowded heading toward that area.

Great photos!!!!! The 1st time I was there, I could not believe how LARGE that mountain is and how grand the carvings are!
