Along with the theme of other thread of best band ever, who would you say is the most talented musician? I'm not going to say "ever" but am thinking of the last 50 years or so. You can throw others in if you would like.

If there is a guitar involved, it's Joe ................

Despite the fact that I only like a small percentage of his work, Prince is a musical genius.

How about Mike Oldfield? Yea, the guy that nobody knows his name, only his work...

Most commonly known for his album/song titled Tubular Bells. The song is 49 minutes long (split into 2 parts so it would fit on vinyl). He played 20 something instruments recording the song.

Part of the song is commonly known, as it was the theme song for "The Exorcist".

Little Roy Lewis.

He plays several instruments in this clip, but my favorite part is when he takes over the bass part at 3:31...

Runners up would be Chet Atkins and Jerry Reed.

Randy Rhodes. Hendrix was great too. How about that guy that played the flute for Jethro Tull, Ian Anderson. I always thought he was talented.

Now, as far as guitarists go, there are a bunch but the two that have impressed me the most are Joe Satriani followed by Yngwie Malmsteen.
I've always thought he was very talented as a pianist, Brian.
If we're talking guitarists, then I'd have to say there are way too many to mention, but of course Satriani, Clapton, SRV, and one whom I think has never gotten nearly the recognition he deserves, Lindsey Buckingham.

2:50..

These guys can play a range of music, and in Roy's case, instruments. Roy is definitely under appreciated.

Chet Atkins
Roy Clark

You wanna drum, and have an excellent big band...
Buddy Rich

Dang, I miss this guy; he would have blown all the guitarist away...
Stevie Ray Vaughn

For vocalist, Linda Rondstadt. Rock, country, jazz, bluegrass, Spanish, all done very well.

Amazing violinist; rock and classical
Lucia Micarelli

Drummer, definitely the Jazz influenced
Buddy Rich
Steve Smith
Neal Pert

I agree with you on the bolded, especially Roy Clark. I don't think there is a stringed instrument I haven't seen him play with virtuosity and he is sadly a forgotten talent.

Chet was amazing too.

Buddy Rich, absolutely fantastic!

Nice choices! :)

I vote Mike Oldfield. Tubular bells.
Just because when I used to smoke weed.. it was a trip.
