moose hunt 2011

Snowtrac Nome

member formerly known as dds
went on my last attempt to get a moose on the late hunt this time i took the snow trac overland from ile 84 on the kugarok road, to an area north east of breveg mission it was 40 miles to base camp on caribue creek. than another 20 by atv to where we were killing moose. with temps dropping to single digets at night and low 30's during the day had a great trip weather was nice just cold. i towed the polaris in on a tow bar almost ripped off the front end the trail was so bad also broke the rear brake assembly while trying to move it whille it was frozen. snow trac did good the new big wheel suspension preformed flawlessly , i did break a chain adjuster rod on the way out with 900 pounds of moose on top it was a quick fix with a handy man jack and a chain.

took a while to get pics up my computer crashed the guys at work got it infected while i was gone . turns out i screwed up going out with a cold came back with pnumonia so now im on antibiotics and good cough medicine .the pics show the trip out about 1/2 way in at coco creek also one shows how hard the trail in is abandond atv trailers all over the place also you can see how i converted thw snow trac to a an rv where i base camped and than the last pic should show how you drive out with your snow trac when you are 30 miles from the road in the middle of no where and you bust a chain adjuster rod on the front axle temps were fom single didget lows to mid 30's during the day the good news was there was no rain.also you can see my take of the moose on top of the snow trac about 900 pounds

to those interested the big wheel conversion has worked out great on the hard uneven ground i find my self crossing ride quality is inproved with less noise and no pitching forward when traveling down hill

i had a great time the hunt was productive and i plan to do it again next year the hunt later in the season was much better with shorter days and the cool air has the animals moving the best part is there are no rain andno buggs

dds,

Now that your big wheel conversion is sucessfull maybe you could find the time to paint them.....:whistling::flowers:

Are the frame mounting locations in your post on the conversion?

Glad they work well. Glad to that you got your moose as well.

Looks like fine time, except for the pnuemonia part. Get well soon before winter gets serious up your way. That pnuemonia is nothing to mess around with, take care of it.

Best regards, Kirk

they should show in the post but i mounted them where the old boggie trucks were mounted i will be changing out a rear wheel i tore up a guide in the rocks and it took out the inside side wall of a good 30 year old tire found one around here with a 6 hole pattern the rim is rusted soo bad the center is about to fall out as for paint it's going to change i saw an old bill strope bronco pic and thaught the red white and blue would look good on an st,
