Every male in my family has served in the military. My father was in WW2. I was next to join. When I was in both of my brothers enlisted. My father was a tank driver and when was on a train that was bombed., His feet froze. The older he got the worse his feet hurt. The military turned him down when he went to the VA hospital. They kept telling him he wasn't on a train and it was never bombed. It took him twenty years before they changed their mind and approved him. It was after his old company got together and showed pictures of the train laying beside the track with my father and his company standing in the snow.

I celebrate Memorial Day, too many times it would have been you celebrating me. I walked away, But I raised a glass to those I knew who didn't.
