Mel, and other cigar smokers I need your input

Mel and other cigar smokers,
I am looking at building some humidors and cigar containers out of southern cedar. I have talked with a couple of aficionados and they all have spanish cedar. I wonder if southern(american) cedar would be too aromatic? It has the same protective properties, but to me smells slightly more than spanish cedar. What do you guys think?
And what would be fair prices for a relatively small cigar holder for a desk or lounge?

Spanish cedar is not cedar but mahogany. You don't want the odor of the cedar permeating the cigars.

Acckk! I didn't know that. Hmmm, there's lotsa old wooden boats around here with good sections of mahogany on them. Maybe I should get my tools and make some humidors out of old Mahogany!
