Major lithium discovery in fracking wastewater leaves the left facing EV 'irony'

Hmmm, does the left change their stance on fracking so they can get their lithium for their electric cars?

The discovery of the potential for thousands of tons of lithium to be extracted annually from wastewater generated by fracking in the Marcellus Shale leaves proponents of a green energy future at a crossroads, Republicans said Thursday.

A University of Pittsburgh study suggested processing byproducts from natural gas production in Pennsylvania's Marcellus Shale basin could potentially meet nearly half of U.S. lithium needs. The typical electric vehicle (EV) requires nearly 18 pounds of lithium to power its battery. That figure grows exponentially for Teslas, according to reports.

They will create a law that you can only frack for Lithium, but not for crude oil. That is pretty much their mentality.

They are doing this about 150 miles straight east of me. I have visited the site. We have disposed of drill cuttings and PCS from the area at my facility. Lithium is actually a very plentiful mineral in the west. The largest deposit in the world has been found not too far from here in N Nevada.

For the life of me, I do not understand. Too many people have made this political. The more EVS on the road, the more coal that gets burned. The more minerals that get mined.

You would think that everyone would herald this.

The environmentalists can claim a 'win' based on the lack of need to create hazardous lithium mines and can recycle the wastewater to claim the lithium.
The battery companies that need the lithium.
The EV manufacturers that are no longer totally dependent upon China.
The right wing who can also agree with the EV makers on all the above.
Even the leftists, who can't agree on much other than a hatred of Orange Man, but do like EVs.

The Trump Admin will herald this. Cheaper American sources Lithium not just for EV's but batteries of all sorts of which I am totally addicted to given my collection of battery operated tools of which I admittedly have too many but love every one.

We need someone smart in the Trump Admin to work out a true and honest formula on upgrading our grid (which needs to be done anyway) and BEV, PHEV and HEV production to match grid capacity. Stop all electric vehicle subsidies and allow the free market to decide how things go. Turn American exceptionalism loose to develop better batteries.

The leftists always say to me that if I lived 100 years ago I would have been one of those people who refused to give up their horse for an automobile. I say maybe, but at least back then the government was not trying to shoot my horse and make me drive a car. :D
