Maintenance tasks that are easy to forget!

Here's some household maintenance tasks that are supposed to be done more frequently than I suspect they ever actually get done:

Clean the clothes dryer vent.
Clean the clothes dryer itself.
Change the furnace filter.
Get the furnace/heat pump/AC serviced.
Change the batteries in the smoke detectors.
Change the oil/filters/etc. in the ALL of your lawn mowers.

What else?

Salt in the water softener.

I am still trying to figure out a way to just load that thing up with 1000# of salt twice a year. :D

Sweep the chimney

Check for money down the back of sofas.

Is it wrong to check other peoples sofas for money too?

a light oil on
the plastic/rubber door gasket on your fridg,
and
on the rubber seals around your car & truck doors.

Keeps them from drying out.

I know you mean well but this sounded fishy to me. I don't think you want to use petroleum-based products on rubber.

"Preserve door and window seals
Wipe a rubber protectant (such as Armor-All) or silicone on door and window weatherstripping to keep it in good condition. Don't use an oilbased product, such as WD-40, because the oil will damage the rubber. Regular cleaning and treatment of your car's weatherstripping will also lessen the likelihood of your door sticking to its rubber seal in cold weather, a common cause of damage to the rubber."

Switch to Potassium Chloride Pellets, you might live longer to be able to add more in future years.

The benefits of potassium chloride-based products include:

Reduces sodium contribution to soft water by 99%.
Provides a means to increase potassium, an essential human and plant nutrient, through softened water.
Reduces chloride discharge by up to 20% as compared to sodium chloride softened water.

Let water run out your water heater drain once a year to keep solids from causing hot spots / corrosion spots inside the tank.

Cycle the relief valve on the water heater once per year (and on any other pressure vessel you have)

Take the cover off your computer and clean it out. Compressed air or vacum but get those dust bunnies out of there.
Once a year should be fine.
