MacBook Pro

Gone But Not Forgotten
My daughters HP only being 4 years old I think has bit the dust. I can spend 4 bills to fix it or get another laptop. She really wants the MacBook Pro to finish college. She is in graphics design and the majority of her work is in the lab using the Macs.

I know nothing about the Mac's as for memory and processors. Would love to hear recommendations from you more experienced people.

A Mac is nothing but a PC running Apples OS.
There is nothing special about a Mac anymore. It used to be when they had a power pc cpu. But now they use off the shelf Intel CPUs. If she want's a Mac by all means get her one.

I'm running a MacBook CoreDuo, which operates under both OSX and Windows just with a couple of key strokes. We have 5 Macs in the house right now, and all operate flawlessly. Your daughter will also not worry about viruses, and you can save money by not buying new anti-virus software every year.

Graphics are a very good reason to go Mac. I've never owned one but the graphics design folks I know all use Macs. If that is what she is using in school labs it would be a huge advantage to have the same OS for her personal use and homework etc.
I think you should bite the bullet and get her a Mac, even though they do cost a good bit more than the 400 HP replacement.

MAC recommends antivirus software for their computers.. There used to be too few of them, now with the explosion in popularity, they have popped up on the radar screens of the scum virus writers. MAC O/S is no more secure than Windows. They were just not worth the effort to these vermin till they garnered a bigger share of the market.

If your daughter is in that field, they are great computers and easy to use.
