Lowes Treated Me Right!!!

Over this Memorial Day weekend, our just over 1 year old refrigerator, a Frigidaire, stopped freezing and was barely keeping the refrigerator section cool enough to prevent food spoilage. Being an HVAC guy - which is high temp refrigeration - I diagnosed the problem as being a refrigerant side issue, which meant that either:

1. A refrigerant leak

2. A restricted capillary tube

3. Defective compressor valves

Not a malfunction that a barely out of warranty refrigerator should have. I briefly entertained making the repair myself, but decided to contact Lowes, where I purchased the appliance and see.

Within 5 minutes of explaining my situation to the applaince manager, the situation was resolved, and I was given full credit for the old fridge. I arranged for Citygirl to come back to the store with me today and pick out the new fridge she wanted. Well, it turns out they didn't have the particular model with the stainless steel doors she wanted for $1198. So we decided to go with a more expensive model for $1499. Without us even asking, the manager said he would sell us the more expensive model for $1198!!! I was so happy with that deal I decided to go ahead and buy an upright freezer to go along with it that was on sale. Well, he knocked another $50 off that!

Some days things just work out great. Right before I created this thread, I sent an email commending this Lowes applaince manager to Lowes headquarters. When you get service like this, it deserves to be acknowleged and rewarded.

So hats off to the Edmond Oklahoma Lowes and Steven the applaince manager for some great service!!

My youngest son starting working for Lowe's 6 weeks ago, he tells us stories like this all the time.

Yesterday a guy returned a $2000 mower after mowing his lawn because he hit something and broke a blade, they took it back ............

Did the guy exchange it for a new mower?

I must say, I've always had better customer service at Lowes than I have at Home Depot.

I just wish they were closer to me.

Nope, just like folk that buy battery drills and return them after using them. Some people are shameless.

That sucks.

I never understood that, but I've heard of a lot of people who do that and see nothing wrong with it. It's STEALING period! People who do that think they are getting over on those "big box stores", and business in general, but what comes around goes around, and they will eventually pay with interest for their dishonesty. People like that tend to attract problems to themselves and they deserve it, and wonder why bad stuff always happens to them.

Just last night Colt said it was a busy day for that kind of activity. Everyone buying stuff to getting ready for memorial day then returning their items.

Yesterday was the mower, a weedeater and I don't know how many drills.

I hope to be able to write a nice post about them soon. Dont know though, so far they have held up my 1400.00 for a week, sent the wrong siding, then got it to me late, they have sent me too much siding, that I paid for, they have had the mgr's take credit for work the sales people did........happened today, and I told her about it, with no doubt left I knew she was full of it.

Now they tell me the district guy will simply have the store mgr call me when I contact him. IF HE DOES, I will contact the head stuffed shirts in the home office and ask them why they pay him to be nothing more than a telephone answering machine.............I can pay a telephone person 8 bucks an hour, why pay him to do nothing.......................hell I would fire him anyway if he passed off a pissed off customer. Once I get this worked out, then I will decide if they get any more of my money

I had to return a weed whacker to Lowes a couple of years ago. Absolutely no hassle, I dont remember the exact circumstances but I was very pleasently suprised.

I must say, I've always had better customer service at Lowes than I have at Home Depot.

It all depends on the location and the management on duty...

I have a 3/4 HP sump pump I purchased from Home Depot about five years ago, and I usually need to exchange it around once or twice a year. They always exchange it, but the method involved to perform the exchange and the amount of hassle from them varies from time to time. Sometimes they have me go back and pick a new one out and leave the previous one on the counter, sometimes they issue a gift card for the amount and I purchase a new one with the gift card. Sometimes they want my drivers license, and sometimes I get quizzed on what I am using the sump pump for that would cause it to quit working.

About three exchanges ago, the model I had originally purchased was no longer sold at Home Depot and they upgraded me to the next model up (30 dollars more) at no cost and that is the model I have been exchanging ever since. When they are ringing up the exchange at the register, they always ask me if I want to buy the extended warranty, and I always ask them what extends the warranty past "lifetime". Despite the lack of consistency on the exchange procedure, Home Depot always comes through.

I've also had decent luck with Lowes, including returning a lawn mower that was used once but wouldn't stay running. I was also credited $100 on a washing machine after finding it cheaper at Home Depot a week after purchasing it.

Wow they were really good to you! I hope the manager doesn't get in trouble now because was so nice.

That would be a shame if a manager had to worry about getting in trouble for doing the right thing. But it's not going to happen in this case. By doing me right, I spent even more money at the store and bought the Lowes extended warranty for both the freezer and the refrigerator - that's something I never buy -. It was only $159 for 4 years extension for both ($79.50 each), and after the Frigidaire compressor problem, and the outstanding customer service, I decided it was money well spent.

They will be paid back many times over with customer loyalty in my case, and probly lots of other customers too.

I agree.....Ya just never know though. I guess with all the idiots that take advantage of their fairness it will pay off in the end with people like y'all that are honest.

So Lowe's is trying out the Sears business model :thumb:. Wait, I don't think that one worked out too well :glare:.

UPDATE!

Well it seems that Lowes really does like me! The best part of me (wife) and I were there on Friday to purchase our shutters for the house. We ran into my sales person in the store and we began talking to her about the project etc. Holly brings up the 'extra' siding, and the sales person gets this weird look on her face.................I did not want to bring it up till we were done. Again she proves me wrong, I call the store, talk to Jessica, and she has already gotten my return taken care of. Since I dont have a truck anymore, they are picking it up and will credit me for all of the returns. I could not have been more pleased!

They fixed my issue, but one remains for others who use their installation services, how much are they wasting in product to sell the product? We had 5 squares of siding left over, 61 peices of it. We had 13 peices of J channel left over.......... Makes me wonder about their contractors for sure.

thanks

Friday night i was planing down some borads for a set of shelves when my 9 year old Delta planer makes an odd noise, stops spinning the blades, and starts smoking.
tear it down, can't find an obvious problem, put it back together ond off to town I go. Check prices at home Despot, then go to Lowe's to pick up my new Delta planer - which happily enough costs $60 less than the old one did and uses the same blades.
Get it home, open the box, and the hand crank at the top of the packaging looks like it's been drug behind a car.
9:56 at night I call Lowe's - they say bring it back and they'll trade me for a new one. I point out they''re closing and it's a 50 mile round trip. i get transferred to the manager on duty - who suggests I bring it in... repeat my story and he apologises and suggests the next time I'm at the store, show them my receipt and mention his name and they'll give me a $50 refund/credit - then asks if that's good enough. Didn't even tell me to bring in the bad part so they can confirm it's condition.

then I go back out to the garage. finish assembling the new planer and proceed to shave down the boards & cut my dadoes.
