lost a dear friend

Snowtrac Nome

member formerly known as dds
I got the word last night that a friend of mine whom I had worked with for years ,before he retired last year had been found 500 yards from his truck. 2 days ago an old friend of mine had gone missing and a search had started he was found last night in a small creek where he had walked off a cut bank in poor visibility and fallen into open water, than got lodged under the ice . this person had been retired from 3 jobs now and was older than Big Al. when these kind of things happen I tend to prepare my self mentally, as Frank was a strong resourceful man I kind of didn't do that, folks are found alive 3 days later all the time. the weather was mild for this time of the year just a light snow coming down. darned I'm having a heck of a time focusing today. the town is going to miss Frankie.

Sorry to hear of this news Don. Two at once is much harder to handle. Prayers sent. But both didn't suffer long and passed doing what they wanted to do. That in itself is not all bad...:flowers:

Regards. Kirk

It's hard to lose a close friend,Don! Almost like losing a brother. A good friend I worked w/ was killed in a car wreck. After the funeral for days I kept looking for him to show up for work 'til it finally soaked in he wasn't coming back.

Don ,

At times like this that we must live life to the fullest . In those last minutes your friend was doing what he wanted . He did not know death was at his door.
That may not make sense to you today , but as you grow older you will come to understand what I am trying to say.

I can only hope that when my time comes , the good lord will take me in the blink of an eye . I do not want to be in some hospital fighting for life . Let me go in peace .

May your friend RIP .

Now that you put it that way Allen it's not so bad. sliding down a hill into some freezing cold water and than under the ice, not being able to free your self sounded bad to me. I know I have been in enough of those aw shit moments ,but when compared to going in a hospital while everyone is trying to keep you alive. it doesn't sound so bad now. thanks Allen.

The big question is always the quality of life. It sounds like your friend had a great life until the very end. Going under the ice does not take a long time. Just hope that he realised what was happening and did not suffer. Prayers and good thoughts sent.

Why don't we have an angel smilie for situations like this?

Prayers to his family.

We are all here on temporary duty, some leave sooner than later, sounds like he had a good life for the time he was here and that is what we all should be lucky enough to have.

It would seem we all take the strong ones for granted. Your part of the world can be brutally hard on the toughest of men. I would suggest your friend had choices and died having lived, a real life, in the land of his choosing. Not all are so blessed.

That doesn't make it easier, I know.

Sorry for your loss.
