Member
Hello everyone I am new to this forum and have a couple of questions. I have bought and imp with a custom trailer that has been sitting in a barn for the last 10 years. and is in very good condition needs some work though hour meter says 119.9 miles. I am trying to find out the year of this thin and have the vin off the motor. attached below! also can someone tell me what this may be worth as is and restored?

Look for a S/N plate like below on the engine cowling. If it's been sitting 10 years, you're going to want to go through it with a fine-toothed comb before you run it to prevent any damage, as you are probably aware. Lots of good info to dig into on this site.

I believe if you contact Peterson Equipment in Utah and give them the serial number, they have old Thiokol records and can tell you when the unit was made.....Bob

Thanks for the speedy response that plate has been removed. is there another location of a vin number? I will call Peterson also and see what they say. thanks. I am bringing this thing back to Michigan on the 18th then I will be able to dig into it more. I am paying $6500 is that a fair price. I looked at up close before i made an offer and everything is in great condition needs to be gone through and a paint job.

Your Imp is a 1404. It has drop grousers. That makes it the earlier style tracks. I don’t know when they changed but, my 1973 has flat grousers. I can’t tell from the pictures if it’s a wide track at 84”, or standard at 70”. I only know of the number on the tag. I got a copy of my “build sheet” from Petersons. If it’s not shot, ya probably did ok on price. I’ve seen them from $6500 to $25,000. (I don’t know if they got $25000 or not?)

The trailer may be original to that machine, that might give a hint on the year.

Thanks for the info it is greatly appreciated, I am going to bring it home this weekend and will be digging into it soon, is seems to be in great shape grousers and belts are in excellent shape motor ran 10 years ago when they parked it. It was stored indoors its whole life I'm told. My plan is go through it top to bottom and assess the situation, I am sure I will have many more questions. I'm told the trailer is the original trailer that came with it.

The initial part of the engine block code contains the year the engine was manufactured. The 'C' means it was made during the 1960's and the '6' is tell yous which year of that decade. So yours was made in 1966. The site https://itstillruns.com/read-ford-block-date-code-7255068.html provides more information.
Thank you zspryte for the info, I just got the imp back here to Michigan and will be diving into it soon. I will have many questions I'm sure as this thing progresses.
