Looking for BOMBI manual or how to change diff fluid

Russ

I would like to know how to change the differential fluid and what type to use when putting it back in. I have a '77 model if that helps. I'm a decent mechanic and might be able to figure it out on my own, but have pulled the wrong bolt out of gearboxes before and ended up with big problems. Any help you can give me would be appreciated. Russ

Fred, not sure if that is the exact same machine as the Bombi?

I am under the impression that the "BR" series machines, while they look almost identical to the Bombi, are not exactly the same. But I'm not a Bombi guy so I don't know what parts of the manual are not valid while I'm sure some parts of the manual may be very useful.

By the way, thanks for hosting the manuals at your site!

Russ, this manual will probably help you but is from a newer machine than your Bombi. You can probably consider it a good guideline for your needs but it may not be gospel for all your needs.

Ya. I know, but some people call BR100s "Bombis" so I thought that I'd throw it out there to see if would be helpful just in case. :)

Just reading through it tells me they are pretty much the same machine. I have the original hardcopy parts manual and it is almost identical. In fact, the parts manual you showed me references the Bombi name numerous times. Thanks a lot for your help. I really appreciate it.

It is pretty straight forward. I have a 79 Bombi. There is a dimpled area underneath the differential on the drivers right. I believe it takes a 1/2" square ratchet. Drain. The first time I drained it was white milky from water contamination. It took 2-3 drains to get it nice and red. On the right side of the differential there is the fill plug has a allen head on it. It takes a long funnel and several hands to fill it. I always fill to it is coming out to fill plug. I have a filter on the differential cooling system that runs off of a belt that I change periodically also.

Hi Russ,

While you're at it, check the oil level in the transmission. There was no sign of leakage from mine, but when I opened it up to find out why it was slipping out of first gear, I noticed the oil level was way too low!... maybe 1/4 way to the fill plug. :( After topping up the oil level, I found the spring for the detent ball was missing which caused it to slip out of gear. Replaced it and all is OK.

Does your machine have the 18 or 23" tracks?

The differential looks alot like the S70F-12 used in the OC-4. Different case and no gearbox of course but guts look alike. Is it?

No not the same but they do look alike of course they all look alike just different sizes of parts they all work the same. The bombi is a Dana ring and pinion:thumb:

I have the 23" Tracks. I've got to get over to the shop to change that. So much good info and i haven't put it to use yet.

Well B Skurka I was trying to get you the parts manual for the BR100+ and thanks to teledawg yer in. Same manual I have exactly. :respect: Huge thanks for that Ops manual I have been looking for a while for that.

I finished up on my Bombi. I drained 1.5 gallons of water out of the differential. Probably why it wouldn't move when it got cold. I was lucky it didn't crack anything. I replaced all the fluids and fixed the heater. Should be good to go now. Thanks for all the help.

Now you know why they say to park your Bombi 'nose-up'. :pat: It keeps the water from collecting and leaking in through the pinion bearing.

There should be one or two in my profile or next to my name

Well, I just got it last summer and didn't really do anything with it till now. I'm the only person I know personally with a snowcat and I think the people who worked on it last figured if it couldn't be done with a pliers, then it couldn't be done. I had never heard about facing it nose up, but will from now on.:thumb:
