London points of interest . . .

We spent 1 day playing in the "Tower of London" (which is really a Castle/fortress complex covering several acres and containing many buildings) and then took a river boat ride from the Tower docks past a few of the more famous sights . . .

The LONDON EYE is the Ferris Wheel, it takes an hour to make 1 complete revolution, and is something we chose not to ride. Each passenger car is the size of a city bus.

Big Ben and Parliment were very impressive structures, we were able to wander a bit around them and they are truly magnificent buildings.

I'm not sure that some of the new additions to the skyline enhance it, but you can judge that for yourself.

Inside the Tower of London complex were some interesting finds. The armory display, me sitting on a midevil toilet that "dumps" into the river, and the private chapel of Henry VII (one of his many).

More from the Tower of London. The private chapel of King Edward I. Some additional Armory views.

The outside photo of the "coops" are actually RAVEN coops. There is some legend about the raven protecting the castle and as long as ravens inhabit the grounds the castle will not fall to invaders so there is actually a raven master, raven coops and plenty of ravens just walking around the grounds of the Tower of London. And up close I have to tell you those are some damn big crows! The photo of the raven coop shows some of the building that exist inside the Tower of London fortress. The building on the far right, is the white tower, it is in the center of the complex and is a fairly large and imposing building rising about 4 or 5 stories??? The buildings you see above and to the left of the raven coops are typical of those that ring the exterior walls of 3 sides of the complex.

Cool pics.

I know the Gherkin is admired by many but it just doesn't seem right to me. It looks out of place (not to mention its phallic appearance)

Nice Bob! :)
Did any of those temperamental tower ravens approach you?
lol
I was amazed at how they are so well looked after, and must be because of the legend that if they leave, the monarchy will fall..
Sheaa right!
;)

It looked out of place to me too. No matter which angle I viewed it, it seemed out of place. I specifically took the photo from that angle to provide some contrast between the modern and the traditional architecture of the city.

NO, those things are almost as big as the wild turkeys that roam around my property and scary as all hell. I was glad to keep my distance.
