LMC 1500 for sale Montana

Interesting to note that there are two incorrect items in the listing: 1) This machine is not hydrostatic (unless it was converted), and 2) The LMC winter tracks on this model are 36" not 42".

I am a little confused by the throttle screw. That seems like a really bad idea for a machine with an automatic transmission. But maybe it is just used for idling and powering hydraulic accessories? Any ideas?

By "throttle screw" I'm guessing you mean the vernier knob with red button on the end? The 'cat has an electric winch at the back and the ability to run the engine at a higher rpm would allow an increased alternator output for the electrical load put on by the winch.

I see an automatic transmission shifter on the center console, so not sure how it could be hydrostatically driven unless that has been disconnected and is just sitting there (doubtful).

So many used snowcat listings contain errors I'm not surprised the auction company got the particulars of this machine wrong.

That looks like than one that almost sank on the great salt lake....RUST!
I'm not sure where the rust is...

I suspect the paint is original, and over 20 years old. I see some light surface rust in places, and the behind the door on the right side, but nothing especially bad.

The trailer is up for sale too! The trailer does raise a few red flags....it appear the rear diff is leaking pretty bad..hopefully no water (or SALT water) got inside the diff!

These are great machines, but they are prone to rust and rot...and that can greatly affect the value and add a lot of time and money to correct. This one is set up nice, but nothing for roll over protection..ideally they will at least have some internal roll protection. When you are bidding on something you can't inspect in person...little clues can help form getting in over your head.

Rust on the plow and plow frame do not bother me, but rust in cab can be a nightmare, look at the rust patch above the headlight, a little rust in the door frame (no internal roll bar), rust on the lower edge of passenger box...hopefully just getting started surface rust, but often they rot from the inside out...

I have seen them that look good overall and the track guides are disintegrating from the inside out...so bad that I passed on the complete machine...Asking price plus time (amount of labor) and money for repairs could not be justified. I can't tell for sure on this cat, but their are a few shots of the guides...Lots of pics of the tracks, but nothing to make me even 51% confident that the track guides are solid.

The backing plates are rusty, its common to see some rust, but these are completely rusted over, machines appears to have been transported on Salty roads and put away wet, likely just stored outdoors. Definitely not washed and stored dry inside after each run. SO a few unknowns.....let the bidding begin!

Good learning points , thank you!

I kinda agree with @tomelroy on the rust concern. If you look at the trailer that the cat sat on, it has significant surface rust. Salty road exposure? put away wet? stored next to a highway with mag chloride mist? Hard to know the true condition without a first hand inspection.

26k already, will sell my bet for 30k
In a normal market I would agree with you. But we are in a silly market right now. I think it’ll go $35K+. If it is purchased by an end user (not a flipper) it could even be more.

There is one for 36k or so in SLC. This one is good and well maintained machine, except they used 80-90w gear oil for diffs , I think it would not well work with those brake pads. Small leak here and there.

Can you point me to the one in SLC for 36k, apparently we have a few (bidding) that are not afraid of a sandblaster and a few gallons of por15

with auction fees this on is already at 39760.00. Still 20hrs to go!

And that is 22hrs of driving round trip for me…

is someone going to bid last minute and snipe this one? A new record price for a LMC 1500?

Those are also nice when you want to warm up without choke at a slightly higher rpm than idle. Is the winch electric or hydraulic?? And what is the foot pedal on the left side for?
