LMC 1500 cracked windshield. Replace or fix?

I'm up in Tahoe, and the weight of the snow from the last storm cracked the front windshield on my LMC 1500. It doesn't appear to go all the way through the glass, but runs the entire length.

Has anyone had to replace or fix their windshield on their snowcat? Is it possible to get a replacement part? Thanks for the help.

Not an LMC 1500 owner, but I strongly suspect that windshield is made of laminated auto glass. Basically a sheet of vinyl between two sheets of glass. IIRC, LMC 1500's have flat glass, so you don't need anything special. However, not all glass companies sell flat auto glass, so you may have a challenge getting it. While you could install it yourself, I'd suggest taking the machine to the company that sells flat automotive glass, and pay them to do it.

Thanks for the response. I think you're right. Only half the thickness seems to be cracked. Was thinking about getting some window security film until I can fix it in the summer. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FRLJU0I/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I wouldn't even bother with the film. It's not going anywhere fast enough to affect anything. Just run it and replace it in summer. My .02

IMHO I'd just find a local plastic dealer and get yourself a sheet of polycarbonate to replace the windscreen. It's not that expensive and easy to cut to size, it's relatively hard (doesn't scratch that bad) and will never shatter. I've been using polycarbonate on my offroad rig for almost two years now and love it! It also has the bonus of retaining heat better than glass.

Interstate plastics is a local dealer I've used to get raw material (they do ship to NA), but highly recommend them!

That's a really good idea! I don't have a trailer to haul my snowcat, so that may be the best option for me to DIY a fix.

I have spoken to our local glass shop about a new windshield for our smaller 2100B. He says no problem since they offen do store fronts in laminated glass and can bring it for installation to my shop( when it gets a bit warmer).

The plastic can get you through the winter but will likely scratch and become useless quickly. When I service cats that need fresh glass I pop it out and make a template with cardboard or plywood/masonite and go drop the tmplate off at the glass shop and ”slide“ the glass back in till the fresh piece comes. If it is too broken then plastic comes into picture, but only as a placeholder. The wipers, cleaning, and environment just scratch plastic too quickly. Also if I recall correctly the glass is not much different than plastic.
