Lighting of the future?

If I were staying in this house, I'd look into those. We've got 12 dimming lights downstairs and seems like every week, I'm changing bulbs. Always seems to be one or two burnt out. I'd try one out to see how long they last before shelling out that kind of money for bulbs though.

I have cfl's in a lot of my fixtures now. Some are over 8 years old. I have only replaced 1 that I broke. Never had one burn out yet. These new ones are supposed to only use 1/5 the energy of a cfl. The biggest energy saving I have found yet is to unplug transformers when things are not in use. Cut my electric bill almost 20% even with more things using electric.

I have a lot of compact flourescent bulbs in my house. Some are nearly 15 years old. What I noticed is that as the price of the CF bulbs have come down, so has their lifespan. Seems that the newer, and cheaper, bulbs burn out or their ballasts fail but the older bulbs seemed to last much longer.

I know the CF bulbs save a lot of energy, but I don't know fit they actually save any costs because the cost savings get eaten up if they have to be replaced frequently.

The LED bulbs should be MUCH BETTER than the CF bulbs, but they are cost prohibitive compared to the CF bulbs so I won't be adopting them en mass anytime soon. I'm all for saving energy, but only when it actually saves me money.

we're replacing the CF bulbs in the house with LED's as the CF's fail.
Also found LED track lighting bulbs at Sam's club this week - better light than the CF ones and no heat, so beats the original halogens by a mile.
