Gone But Not Forgotten
Hi All
Just returned from two weeks in the back country of Idaho at the my old Ranch . Bull Elk were bugling every night and the White Tail bucks are in full velvet . Seems early this year to hear the Bulls bellowing . The nights were in the low 40's . Hard to believe I slept under a down comforter every night . Life is slow paced here and no one is ever in a hurry . Every night I sat on the front covered deck and watched elk and deer while sipping a cold drink .One old White Tail doe came within 20 feet and stole a few clumps of green grass before wandering off bored by the big guy watching her .
This got me to thinking as I drove back down to California to care for my father . What's it worth to live life at a slower pace and enjoy the beauty of God's creations ?
To me ,it is what I have been looking for my entire life . You are more likely to be ran over by a horse , Elk or ATV than by a car
.
Trucks outnumber cars 3 to 1 .And ATV is the second car . There is one stop light in the whole county 54 miles away and we are the third largest county in the USA. We have a dirt airplane landing strip but it has a "dog leg curve" in it ,half way down .
They say we have have 400 people hear but 250 have never been seen .
If the mama Moose with her calf is in town than everyone picks up the kids walking to or from school to ensure their safety .
All the latest news is at the local cafe/store/gas station that one needs to know . Anyone going to the big town 54 miles away always stops to see if anyone needs anything brought back while we are there . My last trip included a tee drain for a kitchen sink at the neighbors , a 3" black pipe fitting for the local 1950 Ford fire truck , and a bunch of ABS plumbing fittings for the new shop a friend is building for his Aunt and Uncle ,15 bags of Mortar Mix , 13 2x6 deck boards and one new Polaris 450 4x4 ATV .Just another typical day .
Seeing someone wearing a side arm does not even get a second glance here . Camo color is a fashion statement .
Waking up to find 10 horses and 20 head of steers in your yard or pasture is common . Last time they stayed for about 8 days before there owner found them . No big deal .
A big Cow Moose just went through the front pasture taking out wire fences that got in her way .
My Springer Spaniel thinks he is a Bear and tries to catch Trout or Salmon in his jaws in the creek out front .
Yup! I think I found a little piece of Heaven
. Someday soon I will be going home for good . Thanks Lord .
