Let it snow, Let it snow, Let it snow !!!

You may have heard that we're getting hammered here in Washington State with a major snow storm. We don't get snow in the low lands very often so when it happens, you've got to get out there and enjoy it. So I did. After a three year restoration effort, I took my Tucker 442A out on a shakedown cruise right in my own hood. Worked like a champ!
Thanks for Talkin' Tucker!

Ya, sorry about the rotation...the posting wouldn't take the photo unless I did that. Very frustrating, to say the least. Sorry about your neck, Pirate girl...can I help you with that... Now off to the deep stuff in the Cascades...see my next posting about my other Tuckers: 54 443 or my 56 743

Great looking machine :thumb::thumb:

Good work on the rebuild. Hope you have a great time in the snow

Great Pic Rocketman!!!! I copied it and rotated it then realized it was the same pic Bob posted right side up. :pat:

Good to see you posting . Enjoy the snow. How can you not with a machine like that. Awesome!!!!!!!!!!
After the 1st of the year I plan to have a way to share action videos. We are expanding storage and once we have the space I plan to take advantage and have our own utube like FF area.

Absolutely great looking Tucker! These are my favorite snow cats and represent what a "Real" snow cat should be. It's great to see that there is someone out there that is willing to go the extra mile with Steel tracks too!
When I first learned to Ski, around 1967, in Mass, and Vermont, these were the "Standard of the Industry". Over the years I have observed at some 50 major Ski areas and with the 3 Tucker Steel Tracks that I owned, that these are a really formidable machine with outstanding capabilities. "Tucker's Rule!"

I love it! I can hear your neighbors. "What is he working on?" says nosey neighbor #1. "It kinda looks like a tank!" Nieghbor #2 says with discust on his voice. "Do you think we should call the ATF". "I dont know" "It does kinda look like a truck as well" "I think we should call the home owners association and complain". "Yes yes there has to be a rule in the CCand Rs!" "The what?" "You know the Communist Community Rule book" "Oh YES"

Two years pass and its now 2008

Same Nosey neighbors. "Im snowed in can you com over and help me?" "No I too am snowed in" "I cant even get out of my drive way and our food is all about gone. Do you have some food I can barrow?" "NO!" I too am out of food and my pipes are frozen. The fire place does not work. I think my Propaign tank is empty" Do you have any wood I can barrow?" "NO!" "Hey maybe we should call that guy with the tank. I saw him coming home from the grocery store full of groceries and firewood!" "Hello, Hello?" "whats wrong hun?" "The phone just died" The lights start to flicker and then lights go out. There only electric space heater goes out. the last sound they hear is the sound of the heaters fins tinking as they start to cool off.

The Tucker 443 holds the distinctive tittle of being one of the longest in production without any major variations. As best as I have been able to determine with research trips to Bombardier's Museum and from talking to the Tucker people, this design, with steel tracks, starts around 1937 or 38, almost the same time as the first Bombardier B12 were being produced, aslo 1937. I've inspected a 1938 Tucker steel track, as it arrived at Bill Guthrie's place in Weiser Idaho and it wasn't a whole lot different than my '58 or '63. They all had dodge "Flat-Head-Six" and similar pontoons. The last of these with the steel tracks had fiberglass Pontoons, and I believe was about a 1976. The last-built Bombardier B12 I've seen was around 1977? That would indicate that both these machines were produced for close to 40 years, longer than "T-Models"!.

At STOWE (Mt. Mansfield Vt.) around 1969: At the annual high school ski trip,( Amherst High sponsered an annual weekend trip), one of my buddies busted his leg. Major Bummer! So along comes the Ski patrol in this Beat up Tucker 443 that had obviously been rolled and then had the roof beat back out. They loaded our buddy in and one of the other guy's rode down with him. Traversing down this steep bowl, on icy conditions, the snow cat was sliding sideways. The guy with the broken leg, laying on a streecher on the floor looking up at the crinckeled up roof asked the driver: "do these things ever roll over?" to which the driver replied: " only when they slide sideways". This didn't leave our buddy with the most positive feeling while headed back down the mountain! But he survived and lived to tell about it, still skiis, and still doesn't like the idea of riding in Snow Cats.

ROFL. Good story...TOO FRIGGING TRUE!!!!! Neighbors... watchya gonna do??? :censored: Hmmm... move to Maine!:wink::wink:

...and in the sequel... after the tank saves the commie neighbors... an addendum is made to the commie hand book..."All tank-like tracked vehicles, including search and rescue snowcats and all other forms of snowcats are banned from use and also from being visible from the street until further notice. Exception to this rule is taken when any of the surrounding neighbors are in distress and require such functionality as enabled by the snowcat. Also, let it be known that the driver/owner of the snowcat is required to rescue neighbors in such situations and it is the only time that the snowcats are ever allowed to be seen. Fines are null and void. Penalty is straight to ass-pounding jail cell and the house will be seized and given clear title to other surrounding commie neighbors. Let the hand book show unanimous support except for said owner of snowcat, who's vote is null-and-void given the unanimous nature of the communist opinion, when rounded, as usual."

Hey, nice machine. That model is the first sno-cat I ever drove. Where are you in WA. I am 20 miles North of Roslyn, WA and we have gotten a foot of new snow so far today and it is still coming down. It is 13 degrees here and the snow is like dry sugar. It is hell on snowmobiles if there is any grade. This is truly Tucker weather! Enjoy your work.

On a side note, I noticed two tuckers on a local web site. If interested go to Ksl.com and click on "classifieds" and then search for "tucker". There are two of the pontoon style on there tonight (12/29). I don't know much about tuckers and specifically anything about these very cats, but thought I would mention those ads. By the way there are several thiokol cats on there too.

Well... I never! Check this thing out... a dually...errr... ???

Yeah, thats a sweet bed for a cat like that! Paint is a little dark, maybe its the lighting? Ha, ha. I have a message out to the owner to get some info, I'll post if I hear back.

I am 20 miles NW of Roslyn, WA at 3500' almost in the middle between Snoqualmie and Stevens Passes. I am surrounded by the Alpine Lakes Wilderness Area. Beautiful country!

I finally talked to the owner (I have been out of town for a few days). He said it has the hemi motor, runs good and they were using it recently. He said they clipped something while driving it recently and damaged the left front track, but not bad. The owner is moving to Bakersfeild CA soon. He sounded like he would be willing to make a deal. Hope someone finds this helpful, looks like a cool machine.

My dad grew up in Roslyn :) I have family in Ronald and CleElum area.
Hubby found our Thiokol 4T10 in an alley in CleElum. Love that area!
