Latest Rescue

I recently picked up this Pit Bull pup (approx. 12 weeks old) at a local shelter. I usually try to adopt older dogs but this little boy seemed special. The other two are previous rescues. The Lab is 12 years old and still kickin'. The yellow dog is a Pit bull/Rhodesian Ridgeback mix. I wish I could clone that one. Best damn dog I ever had. She is approx. two years old.

Also I bet that pit bull pup tears up some stuff for about another year. Did you say 12 weeks. HE looks pretty big for 3 months.

congrats!
wife filled out paperwork yesterday for an 8 week old aussie shepherd rescue. We pick him up Thursday.

mak2,

Everyone's best guess is 12 weeks....he could be older. He was left outside the rescue on a very cold night back in February. No one really knows anything about him. He weighs 25 pounds....he is solid muscle but he is still clumsy so I don't think he's too much older than 3 months. He has big paws so I think he will be on the big side for a Pit Bull. For all I know he may have some other breed mixed in but the vet thinks not.

I can believe 12 weeks - doubt he's any older than that, though. good looking pup.

Erik,

Thats a nice looking pup you're getting there. As for a name, he looks like a Tucker or a Buster to me. Good luck!

Brought the new kid home Thursday - took him to the vet for boosters yesterday.
Still no luck on naming him, but he's a quick study - twice this morning he's run to the front door and pretty much as soon as I let him out he's gone and done his business. We're hoping this is a good sign, since he got petted and praised for these actions as opposed to yesterday's living room puddle that resulted in loud unhappy noises and being carried outside by the scruff of his neck.

And there's no fear to this boy - our dogs are a source of curiosity (and he tries to herd them, along with the rest of his toys...) and when the giant GSD (as tall as Denali, but twice as wide through the shoulders & hips) up the road came to visit puppy went right up to talk to that one, too.

Nice looking guy Erik! We're puppy shopping this morning at two local shelters so it will be interesting to see if we come home with anything.

Thanks for the pics! :thumb:

if you're looking for a specific breed, petfinder is a great way to start the search.

I'm all over Petfinder! It's a great tool. I remember driving from shelter to shelter the last time I was looking 12 years ago. It took forever to find a dog. Much easier these days.

Our dog is also a Pit Bull and a rescue dog. UH I mean we picked him up at the SPCA in Monterey. He was just under a year old. He was well cared for and had an extensive vet history for monthy check up from birth. Not sure why he was given up. Anyway he has been and will most likely be the best dog we have ever had or will ever had. We have had him now for 9 years. IF I could clone him I would do so. He was nutured so no chance there for off spring. I think the dog pounds are to quick with the snipps. Anyway Great little dog you have there. Looks like you have quite the family there! Today my wife took Bourbon (our dog) to the Vet in Elko which is 4 hours away. The local vet cant do much more than vacinnes since his stroke. Anyway he has an egg shape tumor in his throat area. Hope he is ok. I jut landed in Dallas and havent heard word back yet. ANYWAY Im glad to hear you take of these great breed of dogs. Rep points for you!

Snowcat,

I hope your dog is OK. Let us know what you find out.

My Chocolate Lab has a tumor in her throat area also. It turned out to be harmless and it doesn't seem to bother her. The Vet found it four years ago and it hasn't gotten any worse.

Good Luck.

Erik,

You've got three nice looking dogs there. That new addition looks like he fits right in.

Good luck with the new pup.

thanks!
he's a pretty good kid despite being in his "Fur-ranha" stage.

PB: did you have any luck pet finding Saturday?

Yup - I should be picking up a little (approx. 4-6 week old) Lab X (Border Collie?) tomorrow. Assuming the shelter doesn't give him away or he fails his parvo quarantine.

I'm not nearly as excited as my 6 year old girl who is getting the puppy for her birthday. I decided to go with the Lab. This dog isn't for me - it's for my daughter and it's hard to go wrong with a Lab. She's a good kid and is really good with our other dogs but they are fairly bonded to me. I'm going to try and make sure the puppy bonds to her so she has a friend until she goes to college.

I am excited to watch her with the puppy. It makes me smile just watching her talk about it.:in_love:

congrats!
make sure she understands that at that age she'll have about a month of "fur-ranha" before the pup learns humans aren't chew toys.

Well its not cancer which is what I was afraid of since last year they cut some from his lip. They did blood work and an xray. They did find some more cancer on his lip so they will remove it and the lymph node that is large. Thats the egg shape thing in his throat. Total cost $700. Surgery is this Saturday.

That's good news - I guess. This stuff is never entirely "good news". I had an anal sac tumor removed from my dog last year. He still has cancer somewhere inside him but at 12 years, I think he's lived his life fine and there is no reason for anything more invasive.

congrats!

I remember the chewing days well. I used to call my female dog Ginger-bitus. She was relentless on chew destruction.

That's good news. $700 isn't good but I'm sure it will be well worth it. Good luck and rep points for you for taking the risk to save a friend.

Here's Tug. He's a good little guy. He's probably Lab and Pit Bull and/or several other things. His head is too blocky to be Border Collie.

Anyways, he's a good little guy who likes to sleep a lot and is getting along well with the kids most of the time. They aren't too happy with the sharp teeth and claws but fortunately those sessions don't last long.

He looks settled in already. No doubt the girls had something to do with that

It was sunny out his first day. After 3-4 hours outside with my girls and the neighbor 7 year old girl that puppy was beat.

Although the kids are sick today (me too) and it's the puppy's turn for retribution.
