The monitor on my laptop died and I was faced with a repair bill of $250 or a new laptop, so I opted for a new laptop. But the old one has a ton of programs, data, pictures, doc's, a lot of downloaded software, all my Internet favorites, add on programs, etc... And all of this has to be moved over to the new machine, you know the drill. We've all done it several times and it always sucks, not to mention taking a day to get operational and another month to iron out all the associated irritations.
But I found this program called Lap Link which you can download from several locations (for as little as $29.00) which will copy all of your programs, data, etc. from the old machine to the new machine. I didn’t expect it to work “perfectly” but I thought if I got 75% it would be worth the money.
I was majorly impressed with this program. It’s dirt simple to use and the results were outstanding! I’m on the new machine right now and it’s a carbon copy of the old machine. First you download the software to the old machine, then to the new machine. Run Lap Link on the old machine first and follow the prompts. You will need an Ethernet cable to connect the two machines. Disable all anti-virus software, adjust the computers power settings to never sleep, and turn off the screen saver. That’s it.
It takes several hours for the transfer to complete but no big deal; I had to go to town anyway. When I got back the process was complete. The software will even email you to let you know it’s finished!
I’d recommend this program to anyone wanting to save themselves hours, days and weeks of tinkering with a new machine.
