Kureig Coffee Machines ~ STRIKE 3

Maybe its just my bad luck but I'm ready to throw away the 3rd Kureig machine we've owned.

The first one was a true commercial model. It performed flawlessly but EVERY TIME the heating element would cycle all the lights on the same household circuit would dim! It was designed to be "on" 24/7 and didn't even have an on/off switch. I used it a lot but got tired of the dimming lights.

The next one was a consumer grade machine, retail $99 and it simply died, less than 1 year old.

The current one is another consumer grade machine, retail $99 to $129, it was a Christmas gift from my wife, its now 4 months old but stopped working properly about a month ago. Push the button and about 1/2 of 1 ounce of coffee is made. WTF? I've done all the trouble shooting and everything else in the manuals but to no avail.

Honestly I don't like the coffee well enough to deal with these things anymore. It simply is not good enough, and I've tried at least a dozen different types of their coffee offerings from several brands.

My folks have one,got it 4-5 years ago, sill runs good, the wife was going to get one, hope she gets a good one, seems we will see how it goes:unsure:

I absolutely LOVE my Keurig Brewer. I've had it just about a year and have no problems at all with it. They have so many different varieties of coffees to please any palette. I would (and have) recommend it to any coffee lover out there. BTW I have the exact model you posted.

Isn't there a one year warranty ?

Yes, but as I said, I honestly don't like the coffee well enough to bother anymore. Its great for a quick cup if you don't want to make a whole pot, but I have yet to find any flavor, of the dozen or more that I've tried, that equal the quality of a brewed pot of Folgers :hammer:

There is amazing variety with Kureig, from mild to bold, and lots of different brands, roasts, blends. But I still don't like it as much as just brewing a decent pot of coffee. The only selling point, and the only real reason we have this thing is convenience.

then send your broken one in as a warranty claim, when it's replaced,, sell it cheap on Craigs list and cover the cost of a new pot machine, and send me the balance

Well Bob, my luck with them is about the same as yours.

The first on was a consumer grade as you illustrated. It worked for about 15 months and then it started dispensing about 1/2 cup before finally going belly up.

I love the coffee so the next one was a "Platinum" model. It lasted about 4 months before it totally died. I returned it to the retailer to be repaired under warranty and he gave me a "loaner" which was identical to the first one we had. While we were waiting, the store went out of business. I called all around but couldn't get any information about our returned model or where it was at but I still had the loaner so things weren't too bad. Just as the loaner started having problems, the same old thing, dispensing 1/2 a cup and the next one would run over, the new owner of the store called. He had been clearing out some old stuff at the back of the store and came across a brand new replacement Platinum model with our name on it. He even delivered it to the house. So, we're back in business with a brand new machine and the 'loaner' that he didn't want back ... it's on it's last legs anyway.

If this new one, the fourth, doesn't last I think that it's about time to move on. Pity because I do like the coffee. It took a little time and experimentation to find the blend that I like and I'm reluctant to give it up. We'll just have to wait and see.

Try running some vinegar through them to clean out any buildup in them. I have to do that about every 6 weeks with our hard water.

We've done that regularly with every one we've had. It doesn't help with these things. I think that there's just too many moving parts.

Better yet run Crown Royal through it daily instead of water and throw the friggen coffee away .

Our "Keurig" machine came from Cuisinart, and has given us no problems at all. We really like some of the teas and hot chocolates, but for coffee we tend to use the included "My K-Cup" to brew Kauai peaberry - The World's Best Coffee (okay, so we're prejudiced - it really is wonderful).

We're on our second one.

The first one lasted close to three years, but I believe our well water killed it. Yes, did the vinegar treatment knowing we were on well water.

That said, we liked the first one so much we did buy the second (less expensive).

Personally, I love Green mountain coffee, and find their variety packs more than adequate as far as taste.

Funny enough, I probably drink more coffee now that I have the machine.

My daughter just got a replacement from Kureig. It was dispensing 1/2 cup instead of a full one, and some other goofy stuff so she called customer service. CS walked her through some things, then said a new one would be there within a week. Got the new one and it's working great, but I see a dim future for this coffee machine. They did mail in the warranty card, so CS simply brought up their file and handled the claim without 9,000 questions. Good service, IMO, but I can't see spending that much on a coffee maker.

Yup, me too!

I've had mine for about a year now. It's in my office and has probably made a few thousand cups of coffee now without one single issue. I'd have to give it two thumbs up. Sorry to hear you had issues.

*edit*
I just thought of this; my sister who is an attorney stayed at my place and loved the machine. She bought one for her home and her personal waiting room at the large law firm where she works. It caught on quickly and the law firm bought several dozen of their top of the line machines for their waiting rooms. I've not heard her mention any having issues either.

I've had one for about three years, only problem I have had is that if someone brews coffee in it (me) and leaves the coffee cartridge in it, the grounds swell up and will plug the hole/point that pierces the cartridge and the hot water won't come out until I clean it with a paperclip. They make a reusable cartridge that you put your normal brand of coffee in and that works real well too.

Bought one for my dad and he is old enough he doesn't like change and still uses "Mr. Coffee"! So I use it when I am down there for work!

But it is nice to build one cup of coffee and run, instead of a pot that I would turn off and then pour a cup of cold coffee and nuke it until the pot was gone over the course of a couple of days. My kid thought that was gross, so I got the Kureig to be out of the stone age!
